I saw this dump truck parked on the highway nearby and I couldn't say no. He put it in my yard for $200. The truck is 6 feet by 8 feet, and the wood piled 30 inches high. Close to a cord. Pristine white oak with no rot.

How long will that white oak take to dry in your shed?

That is crazy that we wait 3 years here and your magic shed gets it done in less than 1.
What does the moisture get down to by Sept? i know you've said it before but i forget how dry you get it. Thanks

Great find! Ask if they have more.

Note what the lighting and white balance does...
Seeing it in front of your shed I see red oak. But in the truck it's white oak.
A setting sun (I presume) makes a large difference in how it appears!

Stoveliker that is an interesting point. The dump truck had been setting in the sun all day, and the oak was white. Now this is fresh-cut and split wood, quite wet. The guy told me it was white oak.
When he dumped the wood, half of it was red colored oak. The damp wood that had been at the bottom of the pile looked red. Now, as it begins to dry, it is all white. I have not before messed with white oak that looks red when it is wet.

Here it is just after being dumped

I just cut some White oak last week and was surprised how some of it was as red inside as red oak. I was going to post pics about it here but did not get any pics.

A few days later and the redness has faded greatly.

I will need to confirm it's white oak by cleaning up the end grain to get a good close up look.

Got any bark pics of the oak in question?

This is the pic from marketplace, the guy said it was white oak and chestnut.

I moved the wood onto a ladder. There is not room in the woodshed. I will put it in the woodshed in February.
I will test the wood in September and will post the moisture content.
This is the best I can do for a bark pic. The bark is all banged-up and muddy. The tree was cut down near Greenville Tenn.

Up my way that’s more like red oak than white oak. Ours is thinner and flaky.

Hmmm... Wondering if it might be a mixed load of both white and red?
If you really want to know post very clear close up pics of the end grain and it will tell the story.

I agree, more and more it looks like red oak to me. (And I lived in East TN for more than a decade, so I know the trees there a bit too.)

1st pic looks like all red, 2nd pic may have white in the bottom left of the picture.

I think the quarter circle split at the bottom right is white but the rest looks red in the first pic.
In the second pic bottom right is red, but the one above that (smack in the middle of the pic) could be white. Brownish versus redish.

I think it's a mix.
About the best mix you can suddenly run into on an ordinary day :-)
