Yes on the initial color of white oak looking red.I just cut some White oak last week and was surprised how some of it was as red inside as red oak. I was going to post pics about it here but did not get any pics.
A few days later and the redness has faded greatly.
I will need to confirm it's white oak by cleaning up the end grain to get a good close up look.
I split some genuine red oak with a buddy in WV and brought it home. Stored it side by side with wet white oak I'd bought. The white oak appeared a little pink/reddish when I bought it and dried into white quickly, before it seasoned gray. By contrast, that red oak I got in WV is still red, red, red.
