TRV styles

Hi Gang.
I went out today and picked up a couple of Danfoss TRV's. The problem is that they look like crap on my old refurbished cast iron radiators. Has anyone seen any that would suit the style better ?

I agree, that is a bit of an eyesore.

An image search of "TRV valve head" will show a variety of styles available. I must say after a quick glance I didn't see many styles that fit the look of your rads but certainly some that look a lot better than that Danfoss. Probably cost a lot more too.

I will say I am such a huge fan of constant circulation and TRV's that I'd be willing to trade some aesthetics for function. I went with capillary tube TRV's with my infloor heating.

Yeah that is sort of a tall head. There are some double angle valves like this, in a right or left hand version. It would put the actuator to the back, or front instead of out the end.

I'm not sure how available they are in the US market.

How many are you looking for?

I have Buderus TRVs on panel rads, shorter in length, but similar white plastic head.

Who makes the TRVs shown in the picture you posted? They certainly would go better with traditional cast iron rads.

the data sheet at the bottom of this link has a tiny pic of the matt black finish. Don't see that finish with the double angle valve body though.

Thanks Floydian. I have the capillary one on my radiant floor also. I don't know why I did not think of them for my rads. It could work on my main floor as I still have access to the underside through my old basement. I assume I would mount the dial on the wall and then run down to a valve just below the rads. I don't have that kind of access upstairs so I may need to go with TRV's right on the rads up there. Would it matter how far the trv is from the rad if I put it underfloor. It is really just a zone valve so I would think not.
I saw the black ones you show but I think they are over $200 each and most likely would have to be shipped from the UK. I don't have time for that. Winter is coming.
I like the style you show too Bob. I would need 8-10 of them if I put them everywhere. Who makes them? I wonder if they come in black. Cheaper than Capillary ones?
Is it possible to use one TRV for two rads? If so, would it go on the first one in line or the second?

You can use one TRV on two radiators ganged together in series--in the same room, if you put the valve on the first radiator's inlet. But the total EDR of both rads. together shouldn't exceed more than 15,000 BTUH.

Perfect. Thanks lads. I think I will go with the capillary ones, at least on my main floor. I will have to see how much access I have for the upstairs ones.

You may be able to find something here. I know we've ordered right angle valves and custom color TRV's as well as panel rads from these folks before. Nice stuff.

I used the same ones,i looked for a while and didn't have much choice up here.
I see we have the same taste in boiler/storage,and color of rads.My wife is from Ottawa,have a friend the moved to Brockville.Small world.
I will dress up the tops of the rads with some scrap stone from a stone cutter i know,that will hide the TRV's a bit.
