Hello I've been leaching knowledge off of here for a few months in my search of a used insert. I found a Avalon 790 that was installed in 2000 and the owners are done with wood so they are selling the whole deal (liner, stove, cap, and tools) for $700. Is this a good deal considering the age? Is it smart to buy this old of a stove? I search on here for the stove and didn't get much info good or bad. Does anyone have a 790?

I will be putting this in a ZC fireplace on the main level. Looking used since I only plan on using it on the weekend and during power outages.

Thanks for all your help.

Price sounds good if its in decent shape. At 1.3 cubic feet of firebox its not gonna heat a very large area, but you said you are not gonna rely on it for a full time heat source.

Is the liner insulated? New liner with top cap is around $350 for 20'. Add another $200 for insulation. So if it's uninsulated your paying $350 for the stove. Assuming it's the right length and undamaged pulling it out. It doesn't seem out of line price wise. Be aware that the small insert is a gateway drug! Once you fell the heat off that thing you'll want a bigger one. But I think you could turn around an resale that at any point for what you paid for it.
