First time poster here! We've had this stove for 6 years and burn about 3 cords a year. We have had to replace the refractory access cover twice already, because it broke, twice. Both times this was covered under warranty and we paid nothing, which seems fair, because it seems like a known defect / flaw in this model. The second replacement was twice as thick as the first two refractory access covers we had. (The thicker one replaced old part number 30006119 & 30005303), but we have a new issue, which is that it falls out of place, 5 inches down, into the firebox. We are really going through the wood now!

The tab on the refractory access cover (VC part 30007251) does not work to keep the cover in place on the refractory engine (VC part 30005202) itself. It's not obvious if the access cover itself is broken, OR if this thicker piece perhaps wore away more of the engine itself.

The dealer we bought this from has gone out of business and our new local dealer requires a diagnosis before proceeding with the warranty. We could pay their technician to visit to provide the diagnosis and I am fairly confident that we'll get a new piece, covered by warranty. OR I could pay about the same amount to just get a new piece, but in either case, this seems like a short-term solution...

So my question is: does anyone have experience or advice on propping this refractory cover in place? Could we get another firebrick or something to hold it there?

Any other thoughts? Thanks in advance.
