Vent pipe for install - 55-SHP10

Long time reader, first time poster. Big time novice. Poor.

So I just bought the Lowe's Summers Heat 55-SHP10. They had the vent kit there for $250, but me being the cheap a$$ that I am decided to wait and look around for other options first. Is $250 fair or highway robbery for the kit's components? I'd hate to drop $250 if I can spend much less if I purchase the components separately. Is there anywhere online where I could purchase the components separately?

It would depend on what set-up your going for. Some things in a kit may be of no use in some set-ups. You have to say how you plan to vent it. The pipe by Dura Vent at Lowes and Home Depot is not as good as what you can get on-line. I bought the Dura Vent (pellet vent pro pipe) online for about the same as Home Depot wanted for the lower grade pipe. The pipe at Home Depot was riveted and the Pellet vent pro is laser welded as one example. Read and do searches here and you'll get the info you need.

I just spent $340 for Simpson Dura Vent pipe - T w/ cleanout cap, 3' adjustable straight pipe, 3' straight, 1' straight, (3) 45's, a 4"to 8" adapter, appliance adapter, 8" trim ring, and a 8" adapter. All galvanized, except the 4' to 8" is black already.

I'm just doing the standard through the wall install as recommended by the manufacturer. Horizontally through the wall then about a 4-5ft vertical pipe with cap.

You could probably do better buying the parts you need online, but if you're not sure exactly what you need the kit is the way to go. It just takes the decision making process out of the equation, and could make your life less aggrevating.

What's bad is that like the stoves and pellets the price has gone from $175 last year to $250 this year. I wish my incrome grew by the same percentage points year over year.

Yeah, what's the deal with pellet prices? Around the Pittsburgh/Cleveland area here pellets average 230-270/ton. Is demand jacking up the price now? Any chance we'll see sub $200 pellets again?

I would check the Tractor Supply in Follansbee. Not sure of anything north of that.I have found the Tractor Supply in Wheeling to be reliable, perhaps due to the fact that I don't think pellet burning is real big around here yet. Their prices seems to hold at $239 per ton with plenty in stock.Lowes isn't even offering a per ton price with bags for $5.99 and Tractor Supply bag price is $4.99 before the per ton discount. I also have the Englander model. I work in Follansbee. If you find the need for a larger hopper, I can make one for you.

Oh Yeah! READ THIS ONE. I made a promise to give England's Stove Works free publicity for my online purchase experience of a pellet Duravent kit. 342$ later I receive a store box with the kit all beat up inside, no inner or outer packaging. I call them and speak to a guy sounding very concerned who will call me back after I send him the pics of the piece of..., oops watch the language, I tell the guy in my email with the pics I spent an hour at the border getting my package from the shipping address in NY and I need the vent kit ot connect the stove the sooner the better it's getting cold....never hear back. I send a few emails and a week later get a response- "I haven't heard back from my supervisor on your problem thank you for your patience." Watch the language Well you may guess I haven't received satifactory or insatisfactory resolution since I am typing this up and I still haven't heard back and it's 2 weeks later. I tried their contact us "customer service email and that generated dead silence. The mopral of the story -Don't buy from them-no consideration for the customer with a problem and what is their address exactly?? They saw they had a fish from far away and decided to send their reject stock then ignore the reaction. Did they think I wouldn't notice? Oh and here's the kicker I should have been sspicious when I saw this on my invoice emailed confimation, had the mention-NOT OUR SOTVE hmmm.. I think I was being tagged. Any ideas anyone (creative, opinionated or productive on getting your money back from this unscrupulous internet vendor?? This I promise, next time I make my way to Virginia I will look them up but I suspect I may find a PO Box for an office.

Home Depot sells the lit for about $50.00 less than lowes.
