We'll be moving to a new place soon and want to get back into heating with wood. I've only ever used an old, old wood stove and a homemade one. In researching what kind to buy, the soapstone stoves are on the list of possibilities. A 2001 Hearthstone Homestead 8570 is available locally. The story is, the couple bought a house recently with this stove in it. They don't want it and know very little about it. It was noted in working condition with no damage on their home inspection.
It has the shorter legs for a hearth install. We would use it as a free-standing wood stove. Is there any reason this wouldn't work?
It seems from my reading here that folks are happy with their present day Hearthstones. Were the stoves just as good in 2001? If so, any thoughts on a price?
Thank you for your input!
