A buddy called me tonight who has a friend in the orchard business. They are taking out 200 acres of old almonds. Long story short: I'm filling up my yard with as much almond wood as I can fit on my property before the chipping company takes over the orchard......for FREE. Almond sells for $250 to $350 a cord here locally.

Chris.

How's it burn? I've never seen almond wood around here.

Burns great. Very hard and very hot. With so many orchards, it is one of the main woods folks burn around here.

sweet score. you could grab enough to last for years.

Woodland I am very jealous. Good for you. I wish I was closer so I could take what you can't store.

We cut 11 trees today, hopefully 20 more by Tuesday. Using a loader to fill a Topkick with two cords a go. Getting 2 cords plus my pickup full dropped on the driveway tomorrow, with the rest being stored at a trucking company's yard till we need it. There will be four of us cutting till we can't cut anymore. We are also hauling to the farmer's shop and exchanging cord for cord green for seasoned.

I think you guys scored HUGE...good hardwood plus cutting with your buddies making production busting balls. That's almost as much fun as hunting or fishing.
