What Benefits Have You Derived from Firewood?

  • Active since 1995, Hearth.com is THE place on the internet for free information and advice about wood stoves, pellet stoves and other energy saving equipment.

We strive to provide opinions, articles, discussions and history related to Hearth Products and in a more general sense, energy issues.

We promote the EFFICIENT, RESPONSIBLE, CLEAN and SAFE use of all fuels, whether renewable or fossil.
Definitely a money saver, a mind calming hobby, a great community of helpful folks here for things beyond firewood, I get invited to more fire pit BBQs, and a nice excuse to enjoy a cold beer while processing in the Spring/Summer/Fall!

With most of us, we enjoy the lower cost of wood heat. After that, its extremely soothing to come home to a cozy wood fire, especially for us older folks' bones. Nothing warms like a wood stove. I enjoy tremendously too watching the flames do their dance with secondary combustion. I take comfort too in having a backup heat source if needed. Overall, its become an old friend, but one who needs to be respected, burning wood is inviting fire in your home, never forget that. Raining here is SE CT, cooling things off nicely.

I agree with the above. For me as well, when I started out with wood heat, I was a younger new homeowner and was not very handy. Once I got going with the wood stove and sweeping it myself, I developed a “ can do” attitude and have tackled many other projects.
Cheap heat is much better than my electric baseboard as well. Wife likes it 70 degrees in winter and that would be really expensive without wood.
