I found this while searching for a part for another post. What is it for? Please don't say to ground the thermocouple..... :(
I never heard it come up in any discussions on here and was wondering if it is some mysterious part that could be a culprit in some misfires.

Its not in my CB1200i and there is nothing in the service manual about it even though they have it listed for the CB1200 and 1200i at Stove Parts.

Google??? What's that???
So they are really talking about having the shielding connected to the junction, according to Smokey's link, which makes little or no sense to this ole fart. I can see having the shielding grounded AT ONE END (never at both ends to prevent ground loops). They do say 'sheathing of the probe' so maybe they mean that it might have a metal sheath instead of the ceramic one, and they aren't talking about the sheathing of the wiring??

If you look at the kit offered for my stoves, it will REALLY confuse you as to where all those wires go. They sure aren't on my stoves.

And DB?? ''who played lumpy on leave it to beaver''???

I'm so confused!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Made about as much sense as Smokeys response to the origional question. Thermocouple on my stove has no shielding ground. The two wires go right to the control box. Unless you count where the shielding might touch the metal of the stove on its way to the box.

It's in the parts list in the 2011 manual for the CB1200 freestanding, but that's it: no explanation of where it goes or why it's needed. It's not in my Castile manuals, old or new (dated late 2011, same as the CB1200 manual). And, all wiring diagrams show that one side of the thermocouple wiring is tied to ground at the control box.

I even downloaded the Castile manual again for grins... turns out Quad just updated it last week, but still no mention of this kit.

I love the $28 price for three wires and a bunch on crimp on connectors. Are you kidding me?

Well kids,

How's about calling Quad and asking what end is up, sounds like it is a new thingy (highly technical term, you wouldn't understand) they have added to some stoves yada, yada, .... and your stoves don't have it (at least not yet).

No need to get confused tj, besides how could you tell with your short term memory "issue".

Don't ya just love a mystery?

What short term memory lose, Smokey? The article you referenced also said that grounded thermocouples don't last as long! Now we know why they want to ground them with $28 of wire (mralias, thanks).

What memory lose? What are we talking about? Do I know you? Where am I?

I think that's a different type of thermocouple.

Quad must've changed something in the grounding of the stove, wiring, or control box to require this kit. Apparently, it can cause problems if installed where it is not really needed. From this thread on a non-AE Mt Vernon:
https://www.hearth.com/talk/threads/mt-vernon-control-box-always-green.119591
When I plug in the stove I get an ORANGE FLASH then a BLUE FLASH then a GREEN FLASH from the control box. Then I get a steady GREEN with 6 flashing BLUE.

From my electrical background in radios (N4XTK), we might be looking at ground loops if the thermocouple shielding is grounded at one end and then the grounding kit grounds it at the other end. We're not talking Piper Cub ground loops here :p but noise inducing ground loops. Shielding should always be grounded at one end only.

I've been responding to a few posts about this item this evening.
It appears to me that Quadrafire recognized that their factory wiring is not completely grounded, which leaves the control box and the thermo to 'float' on the low voltage side.

I had another engineer help me take apart the junction box today, and after testing all the leads at the box connector seat and studying the wiring diagram, we realized why this wire kit comes with a new control box. Too bad I installed me new control box before adding the ground. There are no instructions or information to explain this, so to me it appears Quadrafire recognizes their wiring installs were not done correctly, or in accordance with the diagram in the manual.

Just ordered a new control box from stoveworld.com and in the box were the wires. No instructions for what to do with them... So I went looking online for quad wiring harness and found a picture that looked like what they sent, clicked a link and ended up on nevels stoves, they sell it for $25. Found install instructions there. Sure would be nice if the instructions were in the box from the start!

The page is dated 2004, so apparently not a 'new thing' for Quad stoves.

For the 'electrically uninitiated', no mention in the 1 sentence cryptic instructions about UNPLUGGING YOUR STOVE before disconnecting the existing wiring. I guess that's one way to up-sell a new $300 control box.

Product manual completeness, clarity, and currency does not seem to be, IMO, Quads strongest forte'.
