What type of wood is this???

locust is my vote.
When cottonwood is that small, the bark is not as rough.
 
I think it is willow, probably Black Willow. Black Willow is the common large willow in the northeast. Could also be Weeping Willow. It doesn't look right for Black Locust.

Color aside, it does look like BL. Is the heartwood a greenish yellow? Pics are too washed out to tell for sure.
 
It's not worth burning in your stove. Send it my way, I'll recycle it into ashes for you.
