What's the best time to upgrade my log splitter? I'm currently using an Earthquake 120V Electric W500 Portable Log Splitter with a 20-second cycle time. Since I started working with a tree service company that supplies me with firewood, I've noticed it takes around 6-7 hours to process, partly due to large logs requiring chainsaw cutting before splitting. I'm considering the Champion log splitter, 27 tons, with an 11-second cycle time, which should increase my productivity.

The best time how?

Time of the year? The orange big box store has them on sale when they clean out inventory. I forgot when in the year that is

I'd bet that more members here bought their splitter on Black Friday than any other day... I did...owned it for 11 years, sold it for what I paid for it, and he still got a deal on it!

This one is pretty much the same as a Champion but they are cheaper. They're on sale in Canada right now too.

Years ago I did a fair amount of buying and selling. I always bought log splitters and snow blowers during the summer at garage sales, estate sales. Repair them as needed and sell during late fall and winter. If your buying new I agree with some other posters do your home work and watch the sales on black Friday.

Afternoon works best for me. If you are looking now it's probably not the best time as we're coming into wood processing weather, unless you're in Australia, then it would be a good time. Out of season is the best for prices.
