You can get that kind of stuff for free from hardwood flooring mills and furniture makers...

im sure i know a good place to get it locally for free...but how does it burn?

Should burn great as long as it is dry.

+1 on the "dry" factor.

Sometimes, when I'm in Lowe's, I'll grab a bag or two of Kindling (Item #87055) and I've learned to get them out of the plastic bag they're in straight away.........sometimes they have condensation in the bag and the wood is damp. Needs time to dry out.
