You just stated some facts.
Part of pellet prices are demand, where the raw materials come from and the impact the economy has on the availability on those mats, competing consumers, etc.
Part of why I favor coal, steady pricing, steady supply and a fraction of the headaches and maintenance. Just a poop ton more ash to deal with.

Pellets will never be cheap (er) in the Northeast because manufacturers know thats where the money is. Everythi9ng in the NE is more expensive, not just pellets.

Back when I lived in Ohio, I heated with coal and I'd take anthricite coal over any fuel for burn times and heat output. Not available here. If it was, I'd be using it.
Im surprised no coal in Michigan. Not too far from PA. I used a Leisure Line stoker in my showroom at my last job. What a pleasure. If I kept it fed and ashes empty, would run all year without shutting down for service. Never had a coal shortage...well, shortage yeah, but we never ran out because we bought early. In the process of trying to become a Keystoker dealer now at the new job. Also, all motors were on the outside of the stove, so easy to work on. It became huge near us with the advent of the Coal Trol.
Might as well just switch back to oil and enjoy the simplicity and convenience. Myself I just do whats cheapest and don't think much about what else is involved.

You will when propane and oil go back up. The next couple of seasons will not be a big savings but once all this plays out you will see the prices go up higher than they were before.
Right, prices on oil are being lowered right now for a reason. After the election, if they manage to kill fracking, pipelines, etc and gets us firmly buying energy from their overseas comrades, fuel oil and gasoline will go right back to $4 per gallon.
Obummer is all about killing anything that saves money. He don't care, Marxist bastage.

Hmm, I wonder what that little dip in the bar graph towards the right side is associated with. The reason we are getting more oil is this:

I dunno guy how you are managing to blame or credit, you pick the choice of words, low price of oil on Obama? Last i knew it was all about supply and demand and a large glut mainly due to the Saudis refusing to lower their production quota in order to stick it to Iran, Russia and the smaller more vulnerable US companies working the shale deposits. It's really nothing more than the same corporate games which are played daily in order for richer corporations to take out the weaker opposition before they become too powerful. Nothing more and nothing less. Maby that doesn't swing with your blame game but it's a simple fact. Obama really hasn't got anything to do about it. Secondly with the new and improved congress how in the world is Obama going to pull this all off with a minority in both houses? Sometimes you have to really look a this stuff for what it really is and not what drips off of Fox news. Flame away but you'll find I am right about this even if it doesn't fit your personal views.

First year burning pellets and my savings so far are tremdous. By the end of the season, I'll have saved approx $1600-$1900. But these calculations are not near factual mostly because if I kept the temps that I'm keeping on oil, then the cost would easily be at least 1/2 higher, maybe double. I don't know. All I know is that we are not wearing sweats and sweaters anymore in the house.
PS: oil is still over $3 by me. A ton of pellets averages $270 around my parts.
