But still have a lazy fire...."..Your thoughts.....thanks.....

Not enough air (assuming its properly seasoned).

When that happens to me I turn off the blower, open the door a crack and repeat my start up process.2nd time"s a charm. Edit - Comment assumes dry wood because Ram is well ahead from previous posts.

Yeah hi moisture wood with not much air..... Thanks.....

E-W loading stove? I usually load side to side. Every now and then things won't burn as they should because the wood is packed tight and interrupting the flow of air in the firebox. Moving one or two of the splits just a little bit lets the fire breathe again and things take off.

Yes E-W loading as well as playing with some bigger wetter I guess red oak splits that didn't do so well in the beginning, but then greyed up later in the burn, I'm just trying to learn all I can about this burning process....thanks all

When a split is lagging i will send in the dry stuff. Just a little Cedar scrap or pallet wood to get it going and move the splits onto the embers. The "shoulder" season can be a real bummer for new stove owners. I keep some really dry pallet or crate wood to make the fire hot. A little at a time will do ya just fine. Over loading the dry scraps will over fire your stove setting off all of the smoke detectors and making a real scene of things!
