Ad for this stove says Vermont Castings Intrepid II Model 1990 - Non Catalytic Stove. Owner is asking $750. About how old is this stove?
[Hearth.com] When were the Intrepid Non-Cat stoves made?

In the range of 1984-1990....most likely.
It looks to be in fine shape - many of these stoves tend to be lightly used. It's a decent model if you want something small like that. In fact, I'd probably prefer it to the cat model (less $ in maintaining it)

The intrepid was much more than $500 new. I delivered hundreds of them as a kid(86-88). I am thinking $1500 was the cheapest new stove @ the time in the jotul and Vermont casting line. Smaller stoves where up sold with tools, hearth pad, pipe etc. I have to research the actual MSRP of stoves then. I know they had many rebates and sales that where tied to accessories which could in fact bring the stove cost down. Used stoves where selling for like 300-800 at that time. But economy was failing at the end of 80's so cash was tight, hence the sales and promotions.
So much easier to deliver an intrepid instead of a defiant or a big Nashua!
I can't recall if the intrepid was available as a coal/wood also, but most likely.

Um.. So looking at the side of the stove, it very clearly says "Intrepid" not "Intrepid II". What the heck? It's an awesome old Intrepid, built between 1983-1987. Price would be fair if it's just been rebuilt, otherwise maybe $500.00 Good find!!

When I sold the Resolutes in 1985 they were about $650. They were about $500 when they first hit the streets (1981)
Here is a blue Intrepid II for $500.
(broken link removed to http://www.ebay.com/itm/Intrepid-II-Wood-Burning-Stove-/331331002176)

We sold Resolute Acclaims (EPA) for $979 in 1991.......

In 1982, the Resolute was $470 as shown in this sell sheet:
https://www.hearth.com/images/uploads/vcresi.pdf

I think some of these sellers are pricing stoves as if they were built and sold now....and I guess you could make a case for that.

We sold Jotul 3's for $649 in the same time frame - actually a little later - maybe 1987.
