When you bought your wood stove!did others do the same?

I bought my harman wood stove last march and since then my dad bought a Regency I2400 late summer and now my brother just bought a Regency I2400 which is supposed to be installed this wed.The family will be at my brothers home thanksgiving and im sure that new stove will be all fired up.We three men can bore the heck out of the woman with fire talk that day :lol:

This summer as my boss was shopping around for 10 cord of wood for his old wood stove i told him i was going to be buying a pellet stove.3 days after i bought mine he bought one too.

4 people i work with all bought pellet stoves, and my father in law and sister in law both bought wood stoves at the same time we did.

We moved into a new subdivision last year (18 homes with the last being finished mid summer). We put in a Jotul 550 and have since seen 2 other neighbors put in the same unit. There are many more that ask about the continuous fire at our house, stove efficiency, etc... I saw the same phenomenon when we installed our heat pump too. Actually, I am happy to see such a large percentage of folks looking for more economically and environmentally friendly solutions.

The thing is, we enjoy it.

I guess I just have lazy family
They're plenty jealous of the warmth but just aren't willing to commit to the work.

Tell them they've just got to have the bug! I stacked a cord of wood yesterday and was loving every minute of it. That pile sure is purty. Was great drinking a beer outside in the dark next to the wood pile....just because. Too bad wood doesn't talk to you.

I, too, enjoy the work. After spending 45 hours a week riding a desk doing information security and network administration for a small, local bank, I find it refreshing to get in a few hours of manual labor each weekend. I like the idea of feeling like I earned some of that warmth. I also think it's good for the kids to see that nothing is free and that good things (such as warmth) are worth working for.

Cutting, splitting and stacking are all OK, but nothing compares to the subtle roar of a fire on cool, rainy New England day. Burning is better than bucking any day. :coolsmile:
