What kinda of temps do they read. I have one that only goes up to 470F then it blanks out. Thanks

You'll want one that reads at least up to 900-1000 degrees. Sears sells them and auto-supply places do too.

I ordered one from amazon.com; it's a Raytek MT6 which is very similar to a Fluke 62.

The Raytek MT6 is $57. It's not the cheapest unit around but I already have an account at amazon.com and just went with them. The Cen-Tech unit at harborfreight.com (http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=96451) is probably a good benchmark unit for functionality and price.

I have the on from harbour fright tools works great. I tell you i was suprised at how accurate my rutland stove top temp gauge is. at most it is 10 to 15 degrees off at all readings. Really did not need to buy the IR thermometer.

But you gotta admit . . . you now have a wicked cool toy to play with and no doubt find yourself shooting the laser beam at various objects just to see how hot they are.

The spec says its temp range is -27 to 482F. Could 482F be too low for stove?

Hi.
I'm using my IR thermometer to sniff out the cold spots in my house. I can tell which walls need more insulation in my 1950 homestead house. It's been 30 below for 4 days straight and it makes one think about such things.

I have the Pistol grip HF model and it works quite well for around the house use. I see that flat model for $19,95 only goes to 425F so you probably want to bear that in mind. I don't know how high the pistol grip goes but I have had it over 650 on the pellet stove.

I'm very happy with it; it arrived within two days, it was cheap ($46.07, including shipping), it came ready-to-go with a battery, and it works great! It goes up to 1022 Fahrenheit, it's got the 12:1 distance to spot, and a laser sight.
