Hey im new to this site and pellet stoves doing an install on a lopi pioneer bay insert and need to know what kind of paint to use on my firebox as to not smell soot while the stove is operating? Any help would be appreciated thanks.

It is unusual to paint the fire box !
Anything you paint it with will burn off .
There should be no soot smell or smoke smell
after all this is a closed system just air intake
and exhaust up the chimney.

My manual said to paint the bricks so it wouldn't smell of soot once the insert was installed.

What I would do is 2 coats of a latex primer
and 2 coats of a good latex paint to
seal everything . Of course make sue it is clean first '
That should seal the brick and stop any smell.

According to Mrs. FirePotPete, our resident coatings/paint expert of 30+ years in the industry, you should obviously vacuum, wash, allow to dry thoroughly, then use BIN. It is a shelak based primer that seals orders. She said it's the only thing that really works.

Can be painted after with the coating of your choice or not since the insert will cover it up anyway.

Why soutenly! I knew it wasn't spelled right and spell check wasn't bringing anything useful up. ;)

I did ask her about zinsser and she said no, go with the BIN, it is made for odors.

Been there done that ;em
