Who all is done burning til this Fall?

I've never really thought of it in terms of starting or quitting. If it feels cold in the house we'll light a fire, if it gets too warm we let it go out.
I remember at least once on a cold windy days in June after a hail storm I lite a small fire in the wood stove to take the chill off the house. I think the only months we've for sure never had a fire in the stove at all is July and August. Possibly September too, I'm not positive on that one, but it seems possible that we have.

Hard for me to imagine a fire in June. We're usually done by the first or second week of April and start shoulder season fires about mid October.

Really would like to visit BC one day though.
 
We have a term out here for lousy summer starts - Juneuary. Had one two years ago and we burned occasionally during it. Night time temps were still in the 40s. It really sucked.
 
I am ready to call it quits on winter!!! Bah, Humbug.:mad:

I really have to make it out to the PNW someday. Am I weird if I like drizzly, cool weather? Here in MA my favorite season is spring. Give me a misty, green spring over a hot dry summer any time. Maybe its the irish in me.
 
You'd like it then, we have really long springs here. Unlike the east coast they last for months. Crocuses and hellebores are already in full bloom with daffodils starting to open up in a week.
 
Here, as soon as the snow melts we get about 2 weeks of spring it seems. Then its in the 80's and humid. Then in the fall its nice for about a month but it gets dark too soon to enjoy it. Then its dirty and slushy.

They say there are 4 season. In the northeast there are 5 seasons: Summer, Fall, Winter, Mud, Spring. In about 3 weeks Mud Season will be here in full force.
 
Yup. And spring only lasts about a week it seems.
 
We burn until it's in the 50's and we can't easily get a fire going. That means we burn evenings and weekends until mid-May and often have fires well into June. So I'd say we are about 2/3 done with the burning season.
 
Heck no, I don't like bugs hate all the yard work. Plus I have a half cord on my front porch I don't want to move to the back yard... Bring it! I need to burn at least at night till mid April!

Big, wet, then icy snow and deep freeze with 40 mph winds in MN. Main roads and highways still have 1 inch of ice on them. Pretty bad considering the snow stopped 2 days ago. 4 ft drifts or larger are common. My brothers driveway has 6 ft piles on either side that drifted thru twice yesterday.

I had an add on Craigslist for three weeks to sell some surplus wood as I have a lot (4+ year) and thought I would turn it to cash. Didn't get a single call until today. Of course after I have 4 ft of snow covering my stacks the phone starts ringin. 2 calls didn't read the add asking dumb questions and one wanted dry unsplit wood. I told him all my unsplit is wet - he had another call and hung up. Took me an hour and a half to get a path to the wood with my Kubota and get the truck loaded to get a load for a neighbor who is out.

I am still energized to burn wood yet this year. I think saving money on propane is a big motivator. I am, however, done selling to anyone other than infrequently to friends or family.
 
I sold a couple of face cord of my personal dry splits to a neighbors pastor today. He said it might help me at my end of life review. I sold it for only $20, I hope that helps me at the gates someday! Lol

Not even close to done. I burn wood until it's warm enough to hold house temps above 66 through the night. This past spring it was 45 and raining on Memorial Day Weekend. I had a fire going all weekend. I think I've even had small fires in June on cool rainy days just to take the chill out and because I'm a pyro.

I remember you posting about burning at that time.
 
Just checked my 10 day forecast......... Doesn't get above freezing, couple nights even below zero. Very unusual for this time of year but still plenty of wood ready!

I can't make out your forecast on my little phone screen but I assume it's cold since it's 10F here and the weather man has his blue arrow that says "polar vortex" swiping across us again!;)
 
As an adult, This is my first winter heating almost 24/7 with our wood stove..., as I kid that's all we had, was my job to stoke the fire at 5-6am because I woke up first, I then had to make sure to fill the wood basket for my mom, and then again after school. As a teenager I hated wood, spending the summers gathering it, splitting, stacking...as I got older I missed it a little and now that I don't have my parents and I have kids I sure wish I could go back and spend the time gathering wood with my dad...Now I want to keep the tradition going..so i'm not ready to call it quits...
 
It is -26C here this morning. Only 7 degrees off our coldest temperatures of this winter. I can't say I am calling anything quits quite yet! My car battery may have another plan though.....

It is around 15F this morning. We've got more cold weather coming. I don't think that we are anywhere near calling it quits yet. I'm sure it will be late April before we 'mothball' the stove!
 
I'm done, but my stove isn't. And my bank account is not quiet ready to start accepting 400-500$ a month electric heating bills yet. If April doesn't warm up though I may have to turn on the baseboard heating...grrr.
 
I'm down to 3-4 days of wood on my property and will take a face cord from my father's house tomorrow (my first year burning wood).
After that, its back to all oil as the wood pile is dry. My 10-day forecast is below 32F with nights in the single digits. I'm not happy...
Next year will be different.

I don't think I'm going to find anything dry/seasoned at this time of year for sale so my options are quite limited.
