Who has a Quadra-Fire 5700 Step Top I want to replace the Lopi Liberty

I would like to change out the Lopi Liberty with something that has the North-South loading. I was looking the Quadra Fire 5700 to start with. I did a little research on it and a lot of the reviews said it was a wood hog. I would like to hear for anyone hear to see what they have to say.

Why can't you north south load the lopi? it is a big stove.

hey fespo,.....running that 5700. I dont see it as a wood hog. It does burn wood but its up to you how much. We usually fill twice a
day but may go again when its cold. My first stove was a cat stove and while it did help it wasn't capable of handling the heating needs required. Not a problem with the 5700. We do have a blower to help move the heat. It sits on the pedistal as our last had the 4 legs and got pretty dusty below the stove. The built in heat shields allow for a tighter install than most. Mine is just prior to the current model with the automatics so i can't say how it would be but probably about the same. I have heard of some having cracks in the firebox but have not had any issues with that. That big firebox allows for pretty long burn times but it depends on your needs.
Also set up the OAK and almost never have any smoke inside. Running minimum reqd chimney, straight verticle. Gold door trim makes it a nice looking stove and the air wash works pretty well. Good luck with your choice........rn

Yep hard to find stoves that take 22" long splits North/South Loading.

One cheaper option would be the Vogelzang Ponderosa (3.3 Cuft) its firebox is 26" Deep by 18.5" Wide
They are around $999 at Northern Tool. Northern has a misprint on the firebox dimensions as the stoves actually 26" Deep by 18.5" Wide.

Wood stock Progress Hybrid takes a 22" long Split side loading.

Side loaders like the big Jotuls and Heartstone Manchester take long logs too, as do the Enerzone 3.4 and Kuma Sequoia stoves. For long log N/S loading however, box stoves like the Jotul F118 rule.

I would love to have Woodstock Progress Hybrid but a little more $$$$ then I would like to spend.
