holy cow, begreen, that's hysterical! Wish we had an excavator on-site to do that.

it was 28 here this morning and i'm glad i bothered with the fire last night - 64 inside at 5 a.m., which beats 48 avg. temp without heat. below freezing is good for putting down the 'squiters, but bad for the buds. it is tempting to get on the bicycle to go to work, but 25mph winds for the afternoon don't thrill me.

tfd, are you doing any stretching (besides the wine)? gotta get a whole program going, ya' know. the wine will relax the "fibers" but you have to push the envelope a bit, tighten on the abdominals, and things will go much better.

i had a chiropractor tell me a few years ago after an injury that everything from the achilles on up must be stretched, while the stomach muscles have to balance the tight, strong muscles in the lower back. she was right. i have kept injury (not necessarily soreness) free for a number of years now. big rounds, lots of hand splitting,

Nothing like impromptu warmth, eh?

Im looking at fire pits right now ,i just cant make it all the way to fall to start burning agian. I dont think i like Global warming.

It was an off winter is all. We should be back to normal next year. Fingers crossed.

I get all uncomfortable when I don't have to do my night and morning fire tending too. We're still burning a few nights a week.

That's a heck of a fire there Chief! Good thing you are the fire dept.

I'm betting the guy on the left is a cannibal, just waiting for his dinner to be cooked through. ::-)

Ha, that or he's saying to himself, do I really want to get in there with the old man?

That shot gives new meaning to bucket list. If I were the standing dude I'd have a little fun and start up the excavator, maybe jiggle the bucket a little.

Dave, this time of the year we usually don't have a fire at night. If it is cool in the house in the morning then we'll start a small fire. However, if the weather forecast says it will be in the 50's or above, then typically we won't even have that morning fire so long as the sun is shinning. Cloudy day, then we'll start a fire.

Just as happy to be done with the burning this time of year, as I am to start burning at the beginning of the season. About a couple months in, I could take it or leave it. I had enough back in Feb.
While I love having toasty fires, and saving money at the same time, it is merely heat and am ready for non-heating time.

I was temped to go get my magnetic thermometer, but the last time I did that, it fell off!!
I think it says on the package that over 800* it won't stick... _g

+1... love my newly-lined 30, but I'm done for the year with wondering if it'll ever get cold or not...

buggyspapa, Thanks for the advise. I agree and I am back to doing my normal stuff, which involves lots of exercise and stretching. It hurts at the end to the day, but I am like you, no pain, no gain.

Fire withdrawal? Not sure what you're talking about . . . other than a two-day stretch with temps in the high 70s (maybe even 80s) temps have been a little chilly. I'm not running 24/7, but morning and evening fires are still the rule here and not the exception.

We have consistently had high temps above 60 for more than a month. A few morning fires but very few.

Calling for temps in the 30's tonight, plus I've only had the new insert up and running for about five days. I was away from home all Jan and Feb and didnt even burn a match. I'm still oooohhhing and aaawwwwing over the dancing secondaries in the new insert so I'll use the temp tonight as an excuse sit down in the big chair and toast the fire.
