I just got some that looked exactly like that and board concluded that it was black cherry.
 
Thanks for the replies. I was fairly certain that is was Cherry. Any Cherry that I have previously split, split really clean. This was a little stringy, so I started second guessing myself.
 
Gotta be Cherry, but the split face looks more grainy than what I usually see here..reminiscent of White Ash.
 
Looks like all the black cherry I split from my woods, none of it is straight

It all depends on where the tree was sourced, a tree growing in a wooded area tends to be more straight vs a tree growing in a yard, field, or more open area like the edge of the woods, prevailing winds tend to cause a twist along with growing towards sun light.
