Wood id pls

These splits are mostly seasoned already, and are very light the bark is somewhat thick and the wood burns somewhat fast. Heres a picture:

That is definitely Sassafrass. I have about a cord of Sassafrass to cut up this weekend.

Had someone tell me I had sassfaras but it turned out to be elm...looks a lot alike

Sassafras. For sure. +1 The not quite Walnut color and the brick red/orange color inside the bark seal it. I have a fair bit here. Fine for sholder season.​

It makes a lot of sparks...and smells good. Good wood for an open fireplace....or fire pit too.

We have a ton of it here and it seems they die off frequently. I believe they are fairly rot-resistant, so I may be able to put them to good use somewhere in addition to the outside fire pit.

Thanks ya'll. I looked up sassafras, and compared to what I got, and thats what it is.

Looks like Sassafras to me too. Sassafras dries really light, just as you describe.
