Found some old logs laying in our city yard waste dump area. Any idea what it might be?

1st looks like Poplar maybe Birch, 2nd not sure, 3rd looks like Ash

#1 probably paper birch but perhaps aspen
#2 American Basswood or hard maple (norway)
#3 Ash but the leaves laying on it are cottonwood.

First two are crap (rotten white birch and fungus among us, rotten softer hard wood). Third could be Norway Maple or Ash.

I'm going with:
1. Poplar or Aspen (makes little difference to you). Could possibly be white birch, but I don't see any pealing bark
2. Basswood
3. Cottonwood

Aspen,Basswood, Ash

So, taking nrford's ID as definitive, which is a safe bet: I've never seen Ash bark that deeply furrowed. On a smallish trunk or medium/large limb to boot.
Is that Black Ash then?

Just because it has poplar leaves on it doesn't mean that is what it is! Remember it was found in the town dump. It is ash.
