PS is this stuff worth getting? In my area we have mostly softwood so my hardwood has to come from people's yards.

I know Yew, when dry burns very well and hot. I think juniper would also burn well.
 
Blue berries says juniper to me.

Eastern red cedar also has blue colored berries.
 
This is another of your softwood varieties (the tree has needles). That doesn't make it bad, just maybe not as good. Get it, split it and stack it. Trust me when I say - it'll make heat.
