It does look like black walnut oak.
 
100% walnut. Get it done now and it will be ready for late fall.

I concur - black walnut. Should be some pretty easy splitting and a moderately decent burn. Of course if you don't want to burn it, you can always go into the salad bowl making business, or turn it into little award plaques, desk pen holder sets, jewelry boxes, etc.
 
Thanks for all the replies. Looks like black walnut is what it seems to be then. I got a whole 16 ft trailer full of it and still lot more to go. A friend of mine had a neighbor that had a tree come down on his garage and he said I could have it all.
 
Walnut .... get it split & stacked ASAP.

You won't regret it !!
 
The good news is that walnut is simply one of the easiest splitting woods there is (even a yard tree). My brother cut down a walnut and we just bucket it to length, rolled the rounds away from the tree and split them where they lay with a single swing of the axe. No standing them up, no picking up and resetting the splits for the next axe swing, just split them where they lay with a horizontal axe swing.
