The big, thick furrowed bark, broken into short, vertical sections always makes me think cottonwood. Fairly heavy when wet, but would blow away in a stiff wind when dry.

Did you take a blade to the end of one of the rounds? It looks like a hardwood, but I'm not sure which. Using a knife, or even your fingernail you can distinguish a quality hardwood from a soft. Are the split pieces in your other thread from the same tree, or different?
