A little hard to tell from that picture but whatever it is it's darn nice looking wood and it looks HEAVY! Whack a piece open and post a picture of the grain.....
 
End grain looks like it could be Hickory but not so much on the bark (I've only seen Pignut and Shag.) More pics would help; Split-face and a mix of bark pics, from large and smaller rounds.
 
Tough call. Doesn't look like the shagbark I've seen. Might be another variety.
 
Not sure if the inner bark would be that orange on Hickory, but I don't know? Doesn't look very stringy, like I would expect Hickory to be. I don't have a lot of experience with it so far, though...
 
Pignut and Bitternut have a real distinct "X" pattern in the bark. Shagbark is really shaggy. You only need to see it once and you're set to ID it for life.
