We whacked this 12 inch diameter tree yesterday in the NC mountains. Very red color to the wood it is more red than appears in the stump photo. IMG_3914.JPG IMG_3916.JPG
 
still looks like red oak to me...?
 
Looks like hickory to me, but I know you've had your share of it. Maybe pignut?
 
Pignut hickory is also my guess, but from those photos it's strictly a guess.
 
Elm
 
The coloring and then wood release fibers suggest elm also, take a round and split it, if its elm it will fiber out and be a real heart ache to crack open.
