OP, sorry to hear of your Wife’s displeasure with your wood stove. Have you checked your wood with a moisture meter? You can get them at Lowe’s. Take a split and split it again and test in the middle. You might be surprised.

I guess I got lucky, my Wife loves wood heat. She had never heated with wood until she married me. She don’t like mess though so I keep the area around my Kuma clean. As others have said make sure you keep it clean. Most women don’t like mess or clutter

OP, you could consider selling the Osborn 1800 insert and looking around for a used freestanding stove for another room. It was going to be huge $ to tear down our zero clearance Fireplace and it looks nice anyway. We decided just to put a freestanding in the next room over. You can put it almost anywhere with a wall exit or ceiling exit. If you DIY it would not be too expensive. I see a lot of people selling good condition used pipe if you want to go the cheap route.

Then why, for the love of Mike, do so many of them share their home with men?

I don’t have an answer to your question. But I still stand by what I said.

Wife moved on to other problems. I got a a bag of that dried wood from acme that made a big difference got the stove top up to 600 ( the best ever before was 400)and got heat from the stove. I think it is/could be the wood. Don't want to believe that but. Thems are the facts.
Sounds like you are gaining on it.
Hope the wife warms to using a wood stove .

Have you tried some of the suggestions in the threads on moving the heat to other parts of the house?
