The question is how is tulip tree as fire wood ? We were at my daurhters house this week and her neighbors tree got lightning struck,so should she ask for the wood?

Never burned it myself because we don't have any here. But talking to others, it burns okay once you get it seasoned. It might take a while too because there is a good deal of sap in them. Once dry though, it should be okay. Won't compare with oak, but should give you some good heat.
I think there are a number of poplars- tulipwood being one (also called 'yellow poplar'... IIRC). There are also white poplars (introduced?), hybrids are common too.
