A ton of cherry, white oak, locust, with some box elder and elm mixed in.
Nice! But I'd be concerned about the oak, honey locust and elm being ready for this winter. Up here oak is generally 3 summers, honey locust and elm 2. It looks like a good open area that will get wind and sun.

Those stacks in the middle will take longer to season. I'd like to see the next stacks 2 wide at most. It will greatly help air flow which is what does the majority of the drying.

It was another day mowing the trails, I also sprayed more clothing with permethrin.

Think the oak and locust will be ready this fall?
Well, I'm hoping so. It was dead and down when I got it.

Good suggestion, I'm going to have the kids help me restack . I'm rather new to all of this, so advice is always most welcome.

Dead is good. Down is not.if in contact with the ground.

If you have space you could indeed avoid a middle row.
On the other hand, stack 5 rows deep in a shed. So do others.
My wood is fine; allow for enough air flow (thru floor up and between the stacks with a 4" space. I don't see a measurable difference between the inside stacks and the outer ones.

If.your outer ones have rain blowing against them (I think they will) your middle stack may even be drier... (My shed has enough overhang.of the roof that nothing hits the open sides.)

Do buy a moisture meter so you can figure out what works best for your case. And that includes dead cut splits... They can still be very wet or they can be very dry. No guarantee...

Find BTU charts with approximate seasoning times. I segregate my wood by species depending on seasoning time and BTU's. Once you get 3 years ahead it's not as important. Quick seasoning low BTU all goes together (pine, aspen, box elder, silver maple), quick seasoning mid-grade hardwoods (most of my stock - ash, cherry, walnut), quick seasoning premium (beech), 2 year seasoning mid-grade (birch, red maple, elm), 2 year seasoning premium (sugar maple, locust, ironwood, hickory), oak by itself for 3 years.

Sounds good, hope it dries out nice. Worst case you could set your restacks up for a solar kiln.

Nothing for firewood work done today, I did get a good walk in with the dog.

While we were having our second cup of coffee this morning I saw the dogs ears go up while she was on the porch, I turned my head towards the southeast and didn't the hawk drop out of a pine, there was a smaller bird in a tree that the hawk grabbed.

Now you own us a happy post for you know I am a birdie lover...clancey
We are too. About three days ago, the hawk grabbed something off the 2 face cord stack of ironwood on the northside of the house.

A few weeks ago a goshawk rocketed thru the trees here and grabbed a grackle. The robins alarmed 2 seconds too late ...

Also saw a red tailed hawk taking a tree rat (squirrel). Not enough of the former and too many of the latter....

Just found out that I'm my time overseas in July the deer stem our hostas....

Those were uplifting things to see for me... Nature at work. What's more beautiful?

Your a mess too and do not you people have a happier story to tell? Maybe a up lifting post. clancey
The fawns have been around, that's always nice when we see them every year.

Now you got the idea and I bet those fawns are just beautiful and of course we know about their trials and tribulations but thanks now I can remember the ones that I remember--nice--thanks clancey

Well I realize that and the beauty you do see is the type that remains in your memory so its time for a happy story...clancey
How's your summer been going? We've had a pretty wet spring & summer in this area.

Weather here has been different and the sky right now is kind of dulled and I guess because of the forest fire. It has been nice weather but this week will get real hot up to a hundred maybe. My summer has been busy and I have not be able to use my computer because of the telephones company poles down or something else the matter..( the run around) and I switched companies after a long time of not being able to use my computer..But I have been fine...clancey

We're starting to get some smoke from out west but noting real bad yet. We're in for what the weather channel calls our fifth heat wave here in the east.

I held off on mowing the lawn since we have rain coming in, so today I'll cook some sausage, onions with bell peppers in a red sauce.

I said I was done.... but it was free oak and we had 60 degree weather. Probably 1 or 2 more trailers to go get this week.

Checked the wood slated to burn this season. Mostly oak that's been drying for 3 years. 13-17%, should be good to go.
