Replaced an old, leaky breezeway door this week. A couple of pieces of cracked/broken glass too. Did the best I could with making it level. The walls in this old house aren’t exactly straight any more 😅

Now Next month I have to replace the cedar siding shingles on the west side of the house…should run out a good chunk of home repair budget for the remainder of the year 😬

No firewood work today but I did have the weed eater in my hands for a good part of the day. I did rake up some dead branches and leaves so that area will stayed mowed next year.

I also dried out two covers that went on top of four face cord of shoulder season wood next year.

Not firewood related work, but wood work done... Here's my progress on the new section of boardwalk. This is about half of the first section. 64" wide and 64' long. This section will be 132-133' long when done. Hoping for the weather to hold so I can finish yet this year.

Oh yeah, skidloader is not working again and I'm not taking it back to the shop...🙄. After talking with them about what they fixed and what they saw in fixing it, I think I'll try to tackle it myself; but it's going to be a bit of a project that I just don't have time for right now. Neighbor just got a brand new Kubota tractor that I "let" him practice with the piles of fill I needed moved. I've got equipment envy. 4wd, diesel, lots of attachments, heat & ac in the enclosed cab...

I caught up on a bunch of car maintenance today, then finally swept the shop stove flue and vacuumed out the firebox. I then stacked it with some kindling, and some wood so it’s ready to light when I am.

Flue was extremely clean, probably didn’t even need to be swept, but I already had the soot buster out, and pipe disconnect.

@NickW that is quite the project!
Yes, yes it is.

The old boardwalk was only 48" wide and poorly built. I had to remove the old, clear some brush and take down a couple of tree's. It's "interesting" building in wetlands... This is intended for ATV/UTV access to the water. The black adjustable pedestals are rated for 1800lbs each.

Yes, vehicle maintenance... I'm waiting for a rainy day to put the new driveshaft and blower fan in my truck 🙄. I did recently (last couple of months around the other projects) get the rear brakes replaced and new exhaust installed.

My annual stock of over 4 cords of firewood is in, neatly stacked and ready. I usually burn around 3.25 to 3.50 cord, but I don't want to run out! All of it has seasoned for three years, nice and dry and ready for whatever winter brings.
I always like the satisfaction of getting the firewood in.

Ha! I would have kept kicking the can, but we need inspection stickers this month, so needed to give us the best chance of passing.

but we need inspection stickers this month
pain in the MAss

My truck is old enough now that I don't have to be emissions tested, only safety. Heck I could do that myself and use the money that it costs for the sticker and buy wipers and wiper fluid and... Just another tax

Fall has made it here now. The golden sunlight in the woods is mesmerizing but it's moving time. It's dropping below freezing next week so I'm enjoying 65 and sunny while I move wood under the porch today.

Holy cow your porch is nice. Nice stack of wood
Thanks. Down here you need lots of porch to hide from the sun under.

The wife walked out and said "damn that's a big pile". I had to remind her every year she says that and changes to "I can't believe we burned all that wood" by spring.

With chitty weather coming in, we put in 2 loads of Ash and 1 load of Pine. The batteries from the boat came inside today, both push mowers were run out of gas, those are put away for the winter. I also ran the trail mower around the trails and over some long dead chit until the gas was gone, that will get tucked away for the winter tomorrow. I also dried out 1 tarp today, that will go on some wood tomorrow.

On Thursday I went to a friends house, his neighbor had some ash trees dropped that went into the woods, partially on my friends lot in the woods which wasn't a big deal. He's giving me the wood for helping him which the neighbor was fine with when he talked with him, we'll cut them into certain lengths and pull them out with the truck, I hope.

It's almost time I make some of the below.

Going to get cold here for a few days might even see snow so maybe have a small fire or two but temps are supposed to be back in the 50's by weeks end. Winter is not to far away.

Last weekend I helped my friend with a roof repair. After that he wanted some deserved rest time. He's coming up today to finish the chimney with me.

In the meantime, I've been swinging the Fiskaris, weather tightening the house a bit, cut some longer lengths of wood yesterday for splitting ....overall, trying to keep up. Weather has been down right wet, windy, and cold lately. It's put a damper on work and home chores.
I keep at it with a little here and there.......
