When I read about all of you folks trudging through snow, snow blowing to the wood piles, or loading up before the storms I sure am happy to have my full season's supply piled here next to the furnace. Not everyone's idea of an ideal system, I get that, but it sure works perfectly for me. I had about 4.5 cords stacked and ready in October!

I planned on 3-4 per season. I’ve been keeping the house at 70-72 with that usage

Same temps here, but minisplit usage when it's above 40-45 or so depending on how long it is warm given the burn time of my stove.
So not truly 100% wood.

I have been supplementing with the boiler as needed. Mini splits are very good and work well for me too, but at $0.29/kwh it gets expensive quick when below freezing. I’ll be using it again come march I’m sure

Its been about 12 degrees here at night but its getting warmer now and I have not used my stove yet because just too busy doing other things but when I use the stove I as usual will be asking for help to get my courage up--afrady cat I am..lol The insulation question about my house has been pushed off to another date and I will keep you all updated..Hope everyone of you are doing well clancey..

I've gone thru about 2 1\2 cord so far. Just about 2 left to get me to spring. I am ahead of the last two years pace, but we have actually had some colder weather thus year. It is more work to get it really dry, and inside stacked but the I can't imagine having to make that much firewood every season!

Granted, I'm heating 4500sq ft of an old farmhouse. It has it's drafts, and some careless occupants with leaving doors open and stuff.

Yes it's a lot of cordage. I've had a couple set backs on wood intake in the yard. Getting 3 yrs ahead on premium hardwoods will definitely help. So much black ash comes my way. Low BTU per pound, but plentiful. So much processing work in my setup. An OWB will be of big benefit. Along with working on the house itself.

I'm spending a gray, rainy and windy day to clean the winter mess in the garage. Not really woods work but it's certainly because of it.

If you are ever thinking do I need a 28” or 32” bar the answer is yes. And make it a light weight on.
If you are ever thinking do I want a big saw. The answer is yes!

The Chinese G660 slayed this on a tank of gas with my little Ryobi burning another tank finishing up the cut because 28” of full house full chisel is not worth risking digging in the sand here.

Bucking while standing is a game changer. The weight of my 660 sucks but a 28” on the 70cc would be nice.

It indeed is making me tired.
Also splitting these 30+" oak rounds is a beast. Not because they are hard to split but because I can't get them higher up. Getting them in a 10" cookie is already almost impossible.

I split a few rounds while I was out in the shop, stacking wood (4 wheelbarrows stack and one beside it)… hopefully it’s good till march, haha, I also brought 2 wheelbarrows to the house so we can have a fire while the flakes fall later.

How long of a bar does one need if one is 6'3" to not bend over?

I'm at 5 10'' and a 24'' bar almost works well to my toes. That is with my arms fully extended. 28'' is much better but honestly a little much for a stock 70ish cc saw with a full comp chain. Skip tooth chain is better but can be a bit jumpy or bouncy in the cut. Especially when bore cutting. A 32 is perfect and mates well to a 80cc saw.

Keep in mind, some saws will run bigger bars but the bar oil pump will be lacking, even when turned up. I've lately noticed some posts of a Stihl 500i running a 36''. A bit lacking in bar oil department, IMHO.

I’m 6’. 28” is ok. 36 is awkward. Mostly because of the weight.
Saw mounts might dictate your bar selection. Light weight 32” on a 70cc class saw.

I cut all this to 20”. I should have done 10. I might have had a chance to split them and or lift them up to a splitter.

Finally got a decent amount of snow here in WI. Beautiful day to be in the woods. Grabbed a load and split it up. Filled almost 2 totes.

Cut up one 24" dia piece out of which three.12-14" branches grew. Got one round out of it and a bunch of big uglies.

Split one monster 18" thick 34"x28" red oak "round". Was two trunks grown together. Some punky cores, bark in the middle, and swirling grain.
I couldn't get it on my chopping block, so I split off the sides first while it was angled to the block.

And then it didn't go anymore. So I noodled the rest. Some nice square and rectangular blocks tho

Dang sand where the two trunks had grown together... Filed the chain again.

Also split a 10" thick "round" that I had cut off the same. Nice pile for the neighbors.

It started snowing at 3, and at 5.30 I went inside.

Snowblowed twice today and helped some family with a move today. Pretty tired and sore.

I plowed the two driveways this morning, we received 5 inches of snow overnight. When I was finally dome plowing the driveways and some trails, we had another 4 inches of snow on the first part I plowed.

It's still snowing but we won't get any rain or ice from the reports I saw, NOAA is saying we'll get 18.6 of the white stuff.

There was still some beech in the stack we've been getting it from so before we received a bunch of snow, we put the rest in this morning before plowing.

I shoveled the one leg of our horseshoe driveway about 250' including an open area for some parking space.
3'' of heavier wet stuff. It was raining lightly partway through. Luckily for me a friend stopped and plowed out the end from the town's passing's. I was almost to the point of shoveling the end.....in the nick of time.
