I got my third and final truckload of wood today from a field by my work. It is a giant red oak which blew down last fall. I've been eyeing it all winter. Finally ran into the owner a week ago.
This last load (cutting from the top) brought me to where three large branches converge, and it is supported here, and then fifty feet away to the rootball. The cut I would have to make is not scary on normal sized wood, but is here. The trunk is several feet off the ground. If I get the trunk on the ground, it is easily 2 years of wood, possibly 3. I would have to build another shed. Sometimes an axe is safer than a saw.

Dropped an elm and an oak in the parents front yard. Easy trailer acess and neighbors bobcat for hauling limbs and brush made this one a cinch.

I moved a little more wood to the porch from a small 3/4 cord stack I have to relocate for a project this summer anyways. It’s mostly hickory, red and white oak and possibly some maple mixed in. I brought over about 30 splits maybe it will be the last for the season, maybe not!

We put in a small load of ash & maple today. After putting in firewood, I cleaned off the sander and parts of the tractor, the sander was wiped down after cleaning it, next is greasing it.

Nice slabs, i need to improve my splitting game!

Nice slabs, i need to improve my splitting game!
Thanks! That’s my favorite shape to split, if I could split all of it that way I wood. (Pun)

Sometimes due to species or size of the round I’m working with it doesn’t always come out as planned, but it’s all BTU’s in the end.

I finally bucked up the top of a White Pine mother nature took care of the last wind event. I moved it over to a splitting area with the tractor, once I get the area the top was in cleaned up more, the rest will be felled.

The worst part of today was picking up branches that were on the trails. The winds did take down part of a small beech so I bucked that up with a pine that has been down. I'll need to fell the rest of the beech and the pine that are still standing, the beech did come home with me.

Doing some spring cleaning, cutting up some wood I had stack a few months ago.

What does everyone think these bigger rounda are? They smelled pretty good almost cedar like, but not cedar. Hickory?

Had to unstack this rack. It was ready to fall over. Guess that's what happens when you live in the mountains and have no flat ground and buy a cheap wood rack. We took all the wood off and got it all rejiggered. It is a 12 foot rack so we added 2 green metal fence posts to have smaller sections and provide some stability. The picture doesn't even make it look as bad as it was.

I was offered some 8’ lengths of red oak 4x4 and 6x6 that had been sitting mostly under tarp for several years. I’m looking forward to sharing pics in the 27-28 “what is in your stove” thread showing a solid cube of this and see how long I can get on the king with no air space between pieces. 😬 I approximate a bit over half a cord in the pile.

Not as much firewood related but I had a brush mower on rent so I ended up clearing 3-4 acres of nastiness from my place as well as a neighboring 2.5 acres that we will have access to for grazing. The neighbors like to turkey hunt and like the vegetation a bit lower so the sheep will be up to the task now.

I keep thinking winter is over but we are going from 70's today to 30's with wind and rain snow mix for a day or to. Figured I'll burn up everything in the garage before winter is finally over. I'm ready for spring and warm temps.

After letting the splitter run for 5 minutes and then off for another 30 minutes, I did a oil change today on a splitter. I checked the spark plug after the oil change, it needed a new one so I checked the area the plugs are kept, I didn't have what I needed. I have more oil changes coming up so I took a trip and bought enough oil for the changes along with a new spark plugs for the splitter.

When I came home I put the oil in the garage and then changed the spark plug. The wife said the house was getting cool so I started a fire, I was sitting on the couch in the basement waiting for the fire to get hot enough that I could close the air down when I saw two spark plugs in the box on the big coffee table in front of me, they were the same plugs I bought today.

I did have a new spark plug for the trail mower so that was changed, that will be next on the list for a oil change and then a push lawn mower. I'll get the old oil to a NYS licensed place that burn it for heat.

We put in a bigger load of firewood today than we've been putting in, it looks like Mother Nature will keep it cool enough at night that we'll need heat.

I see all you people are working like little beavers and those "maybe sheep fields" look so pretty and that wood that dh has is so pretty and cut so even--what a job but I think he picked up that wood from somewhere but it sure is nice size to burn.. Our guy wl is washing his cars for it seems everyone is getting ready for tomorrows weather down the road. I have been relaxing and eating too much and I had company from CA and this was nice.. I went on to e-bay and tried to buy something but its like a bidding war or something and I asked for help for it was too complicated for me and they were absolutely no help so I just gave up on the thing I wanted to buy...I have not started my stove yet but I will when it gets much colder. Today was a beautiful day but friday we are in for snow or something and in the middle of the country there might be more flooding for it will rain with sleet again--ugh---poor folk weather has been relentless and lots of rain...Watching all you people and find time to just relax and enjoy being with your wonderful families and try to be good...clancey

I spent the day cleaning half the porch floor (Timber Tech) first I cleaned the weep holes with a small dandelion puller with a v shape shovel and then used the air compressor on it. I used 2 pails of water, one had Dawn in it and the other was just water. I used a shower scrub brush with the water and Dawn and then I would wipe it clean with the straight water with a sponge.

I'm not sure how many times I changed both waters but six sounds right. I went over it 2 or 3 times so I only did half the porch. I have some areas I'll go over again. You can see in the pictures where I stopped.

I just love wood floors especially on the porch but it is so hard to keep up and cannot you put something on it to protect it better in regard to the weather..Looks like a pretty good size porch and you did a lot of work now it is time to just relax and eat soup-lol--easy to cook--lol. Unbelievable for I climbed on my porch not too high up and put a garden hose down there just to make sure nothing would block the smoke from coming out and its clear--I must be getting ready for something and last time I used it was about I guess about two years ago but it was cleaned real good and its ready for something and I am using those store bought wood like environmental log and pine logs and you get six of these in a package.---easier for me...I plan to start with just two or three and feel m,y way through and yes I will be asking for suggestions and advice at that time. I need to read the directions on this--lazy I am...Nice hearing about what you are all up too---too much work--lol clancey

I'm sure there is something out there, TimberTech has a product but you can only use it on a certain type of TimberTech decking. I'll find out what TimberTech product we have before I use a cleaning product on it. The house was built in early 2000, I'll get in contact with the company with some info and pictures.

Once I get the product, I'll clean it again in the fall before winter. The railing needs painting again so that's on the list.

There is ALWAYS something needing done isn't there? I'll be doing stuff around here till I'm too old to.

Yesterday was another day of feeding the fire ring and moving some loads of punk up to burn. A couple of piles left from a month back I need to get out before they get overgrown and turn into copper head heaven.

Helped plant the raised beds ( read carry the heavy chit for the wife)

Too windy to burn today so going out for more heavy stuff to finish the planting LOL 😆

Now your scaring me PS--copper head heaven--ugh--I am afraid of snakes--don't mind the little innocent ones but those I would not go near--lol---You be careful if you have to be in "that area". and plant something good to eat--like tomatoes--my favorite and easy for me...Have a good day everyone and it is snowing here and rainy and cold...clancey

I spent another 4 plus hours on the other side of the porch, I only filled up the two different pails 3 times today. I still have some work left, in the middle needs cleaning and then the steps. I'll do the middle of the porch first and then clean the siding, the steps will get done last.

The area is still wet so I didn't get a picture. ..... yet.
