Mile from the house. It was all bucked up and in a pile. Home owner and his son even helped me load. I was out of there in 20 minutes. Full truck bed load behind me. I was sagging on the slow ride home. 95% black birch. Smells like winter fresh gum. Time to split and stacked.

I took a 400 grit block sander to the chair today and then wiped it down with a micro fiber towel. I had some super fine steel wool that I used on the chair too, I'm done with it.

Picture 1601 is from today after I was finished, in the first picture, on the left is back a few days or more, on the right is from today.

We had some pine left from when we switched over to hardwood in the fall so we brought that in today.

Got another truck load of maple today, with a few large pieces of hickory mixed in.

I’m getting pretty backed up for splitting, probably 2-3 cords of un split maple and ash, with some another half cord or so of hemlock / poplar…. Should be able to get another cord or 2 of maple logs this week; then I’ll start splitting.

I'm working on splitting a trailer load of wet poplar right off of the trailer. I let the wood sit for a couple of weeks out in public before loading it and naturally about 20 quarters went missing - oh well I just cut up some more. The older guy who was helping himself came out there when I was loading and pretended to be doing other work (farm setting).

I'm trying out my new setup for splitting off the trailer - table, hatchet, and backed right up to the splitter. I would like to get a small section of roller conveyer to roll the 100 lb wet chunks right to the splitter. And maybe hook up a boat trailer manual crank to pull the rounds onto the trailer (I'm getting older) up the conveyer roller ramp

My childhood climbing tree that I have known for over 40 years dropped a big chunk. It has four huge stems that come out of the ground and one of them blew over so I figured it is only fitting that I take it home to my grown-up home and give it one last use. I started towards the top part and am working my way closer to the stump so these rounds will get yet bigger. My Impreza is surprisingly good at this but I certainly avoid potholes on the way home. Had a blast with my Fiskars 8lb with over half of the big rounds popping in half on the first strike. Gotta love black cherry for that.

Wow I was going to ask what kind of vehicle! That's cool that the Impreza handled and fit all that. While I didn't have a truck I hauled quite a bit in my former 2002 Forester. Then got a 6' trailer for it. Never really mastered backing that up. When empty and backing I'd sometimes just pick it up and swing it over as needed.

Don't feel bad about struggling backing a short trailer. They are tough. It's all about wheel base ratio. The shorter the vehicle wheel base and longer the trailer wheel base the easier it gets.

Long trailers on my quad cab 8' bed are fine, but my 10' utility trailer sucks.

I've heard that! Ironically, the longer trailers are easier.

One of the things I like about a trailer is the height and a built in ramp. My old Z71 Chevy seems to be a bit higher than the base 4WD model, being in my 60s it can be a bit tough loading wood in. A few weeks ago I managed to get a dryer up there though. That would have been easier with a trailer.
