Loaded the log deck up with a few big splitters to chomp up.

Got a decent few cut up. Just gotta get them split now and on the pile !!

Once those splitters are on the pile I should have in the neighborhood of 25 cord ready to burn. Bring it on Mother Nature !!

Here is the coolest idea I got from the tube...This took some plywood and 2 x 4's. Each shelf can hold about 500lbs. I really like this...but I have a scissor lift that makes getting stuff down. The shelves to the right are the very coolest!

been pretty busy. Picked up some mulberry that I had committed to take from May, split that up and attacked. Borrowed a dump trailer from a friend. Probably got a )
Half to 2/3 cord worth. Far easier this way! Also found a really nice cherry log on the side of the road right up from my house. Split that up and stacked. Forgot how nice it is to split fresh cut cherry, even the knotty pieces were easy with the ax. Also scored a large oak limb that came down in the nor’easter we just had from a neighbors house. Even paid me $30 bucks to take it! Refused to let me give the money back. Probably got 1.25 cords maybe slightly more from all that. Thought I had pictures of the large oak limb but I guess not. Was about 3/4 truck load worth.

Also changed the door gasket on the stove.

While stacking the wood, I found that several of my tarps have been passing some water through them so I ordered a 100 foot roll by 5 feet wide of black 10 mil sheeting. I’ll use that for top coverage now. I’ll take care of that possibly this weekend or next week worst case the week after.

Nice if you have cherry that splits easy. I always have trouble here, stringy stuff here - though my grain often looks more wavy than the nice and straight pieces you have (even if no knots).

This was beautiful straight grain stuff. The rest of the tree was infested with carpenter ants. Probably why they cut it down. Too nice of a log to pass up though, the stuff that was free of bugs

I don’t think I’ve ever split a freshly downed cherry. It looks nice, like cedar almost.

Smells great too. And probably the easiest splitting wood I’ve ever split by hand. Literally 1-2 swings with X27 down the middle and blows apart. Those were about 18”-20” rounds.

I can tell you cherry that’s been sitting in the round a long time is a bear to split.

Fresh cherry really is the opposite of the old rounds, once it gets that stringy grain it turns into a whole different workout. The smell makes the easy stuff even better :)

I think it depends on where/how it grew too.
All my cherry was cut the day of, or the day before I got it, and I get to splitting it in 2 weeks max or so (b/c I have to buck it first). It's always been stringy.

I worked on installing a manual transfer switch and inlet for my generator and power station. I got one circuit set up and the L14-30 inlet installed so far. I ran 10-3/with ground NMB to connect the switch and inlet. Had to remove some old junk off the wall next to the power panel so I'd have enough room to mount the transfer switch. Of course I have no open one inch knockouts in my panel to bring my transfer switch wiring in. Closest is a 1/2" so I'm drilling out the half incher with a hole saw. Of course I didn't have a 1" hole saw so I have to get that tomorrow. Once I get that done, I only need to connect 5 more circuits and it will be ready. Probably do it all up on Monday. Also have a firewood delivery on Monday, so that should keep me busy for a day or so, depending on my motivation.

Burning Since---when I connected my generator about 10 years ago--guessing here--it cost me 1800 dollars to connect it to the gas and transfer switch and electric--whatever they did --just saying here...I am glad you are getting it done for it might very well come in handy...I see everyone is being working little beavers getting ready for the winter season...Happy Holidays everyone..The moon is in the leaning stage and about a quarter in size--maybe full moon again in a few weeks..Bye clancey...

Same to you @clancey I can do the electrical, but I won't mess with the NG. It will need a tee and a shutoff and whatever connector they use. Only thing I can do there is connect to the connection installed for me. Hopefully it isn't too expensive to do that.

Hopefully, it will never be needed or only minimally needed.

I finished cleaning up all of saw dust from that huge load of oak, after burning ~20 wheelbarrows full I decide to take it to the town yard waste dump, it ended up being almost a full bed of saw dust.

As I was cleaning it out, a guy back up with a dump trailer full of cherry… not that I need more wood, but it was easy picking so I filled the truck up. Haha. I guess I need to check that place out more often.

Maybe make nice to the people there and they'll let you know if wood comes in. Pretty nice score.

Cleaned out the stove and chimney, split up some kindling, and loaded up the firewood rack by the house. Gonna be in the 40s next two mornings tis the season!

Was also at my buddy’s with the tractor dropping a bunch of dead oaks. They’re dying like small doses of agent orange is getting sprayed it’s insane. Told him we are going to have to really thin out the small scraggly stuff they’re probably suffocating.

I have this winters wood supply into the bins in the attached garage (about 3 cord) and cleared some brush, stumps & trees down in the swamp in preparation for rebuilding the second boardwalk next year.

Brought wood in, and cut to length. Thankfully this is the last year I have to do this. I cut all those stuff 2.5 years ago and planned on EW loading but now do NS.

Also made some kindling out of some white pine I have.

All the heating wood is 100% red oak.
what size do you use for n/s?
