@Burnin Since 1991 Wow yeah that’s tough! This stove burns long and hot NS. Takes off faster too than EW. My stove is 2.4 cu ft.

I could load up to 20” logs EW but the way it stacks I can fit more volume of wood NS
Yes, I cut a bunch of shorties to burn n/s. The best part is the wood not rolling off and landing against the glass. And you can see a better fire. Mine has a pretty small box. Without getting out of the recliner... I'd guess-timate 1.4 c/f

A little new to me basement stove prep work today. Checked gaskets with dollar bill, lubed bypass and hinges with copper anti-seize, installed bypass retainers and cat, vacuumed whatever little ash was in the stove and cat chamber.

I can fire it with the temps we have had lately but I’m still waiting to hear from a sheetmetal shop on my new chimney chase cap. Been going on over a week now. I dislike the need to deal with subcontractors for reasons like that and if I had a brake and the material I can bend it myself but this time I gotta be patient…..😩

Didn't take any before and after photos, but I dove into one of the tangles from the '24 derecho. Have enough cleared out under the big aspen sitting on a snapped off pine (previous photo in spring) that I can hopefully pull it off. I'll try to get photos because it's impressive. Pretty bushed, big pile of brush to burn... Weather is going to be uncooperative for a few days.

I have some pics but I have been cutting up all my logs and stacking the last couple months here and there when I get a chance. The days are getting shorter and the cooler weather is moving in.

New door gasket time on the king. It was getting loose with the dollar bill test on the hinge side which is non-adjustable.

That’s where I was this spring, the last few months has been the exact opposite, I’ve taken 6 loads from tree companies; I’m probably north of 10 cords of free oak, ash and beech. It’s going to take me until December to catch up! 🤣🤣

Yeah he said he’s keeping my number I said good. I also threw him a $20 just to grease the wheels. So if I hoof it maybe I can get this split by hand by next weekend. I co own a splitfire log splitter with a buddy but it’s an hour each way plus he’s not caught up yet or else I’d grab it. I could probably get this done in like 3 hours with the splitter.

Cleaned out my PE summit, and attempted to regasket the door… but my gasket cement had hardened up, I’ll have to grab some this week. After that I brought some wood into the shop and bucked up a few of the white oak logs from my latest tree drop. Lots of work left here, but it probably needs to waiting while i split and stack some of my other rounds so im good next winter.

Here’s the latest drop less the few logs I bucked up towards the back. There some nice straight oak and beech under those monsters, the one in front is shoulder height.

I’ve got a sort of ally of cleared ash trees, which were mostly tall and skinny. I’m just now getting to the huge ash trees at the end of this ally. I’ve got about a 10 or 15 degree margin of error to take down the big trees into this ally that was formerly smallish ash. I’m leaving the sugar maples, so I have to dodge those. Took down and bucked the first big one yesterday. I’ll fill up the 27-28 and beyond wood shed quite soon, not sure if I’ll stop taking down the big ones, which are mostly still alive but all EAB infested when I run out of shed room or if I’ll keep going and put logs on pallets. Fall is good cutting weather, and these trees are dying. This one was 50+ years old by the rings, and the get bigger as I get into that patch. 21 inch logs for the Progress Hybrid.

Grabbed a truck and trailer load of 90% red oak and 10% black oak. All beautiful straight grain. Heck of a score. I gave the guy $40 for a tip because splitting was so easy. I’ll be back for more next week, still a ton of logs to cut. I’ll have to get creative on space starting to run out of areas without creating new ones LOL

Nice! You were way over due for a good oak score.

Yup! This is some nice straight grain stuff. I got some wood from this guy a year ago too. Definitely gonna keep going as long as he’s got this type of stuff

This was the original photo. I probably took 5-6 logs from this, including the big one on the bottom left. Probably still half left of what’s pictured

Yea, that’s a great score. That’s a year+ worth of oak if you can get it all.

Cleaned the liner. Blew out the insert blower fans. Finished splitting all the maple i got. Stacked it. Loaded up the rack near the slider. Been a busy few days, but I'm ready!

Got the tarps all changed out: had some custom length ones made about the same price as Walmart “heavy duty” tarps. these are 12 mil thick and have a 5 year warranty. They shorted me length on a few of them…only one of which is an issue. Have to have a couple more made for the oak I recently got and what I’m picking up next week

Still plenty of room on top of those stacks. I go up 6 feet due to a lack of storage space. Nice score for ya, good looking wood!

Beginning of Oct this hazel at the front of my orchard was blocking the tractor path, so I got the pole saw out.

Got it down to this

Last year our local supermarket was running a promotion and we bought a bunch of Einhell tools for half price. We picked up a little 5” battery chainsaw on a whim and turns out this little guy is wonderful for getting into tight spaces! Made trimming the trunks very easy

Ha! Blocking the path again…Got the little Einhell and cleaned it up…found some of my missed stands to cut out

Hazel burns pretty well here, I have a lot I brought down in 2024 that will be ready to burn now.

I just bought a battery powered pole saw myself and jeez it works great. I used it to do some pruning / trimming around the house and I was really impressed. Looks like yours is a keeper as well!

The kiddos and I split the last trailer load of wood needed to fill the pile by the wood stove. I think I can get a little more on there yet but they’re ready to be done making wood for a while. Me, I’m just getting started ! Fall wood making is the best !
