Cleared out 3 garden beds. Fed the blueberries. Mowed for the second time this year.
Mowed?!?! I plowed and snowblowed today. Hadn't done it for the last several 1-2" snowfalls so it needed it... Much nicer without a bunch of material & equipment laying around and not having to do the slab and surrounding area.

Also hauled in a couple of tote barrels of aspen to warm up and dry off. Much better burning after 3-5 days inside instead of 1.

Doing fall work here since there's no winter. I should be fully stocked with wood before I'm done burning this year...
There's a ton of free blow down just up the mountain.

Crazy weather. This is the winter that wasn't.

I brought in one wheelbarrow more of wood.
40+ mph wind, 10 F. Wind-chill of -8.
Was not very warm :-)
Did find a few locust splits tho, so that's good.

Past 2 days I've spent in the woodyard. Processed 2 face cords of old rounds and limb wood. Hardwoods and some soft maples. Tossed all down into the lair and closed it up. Spent all night dancing with the dragon while clearing out the entry. Finished moving the wood down there a couple hours ago. Closed everything up tight and turned on the box fan.

Ate lasagna for dinner, and now it's time to feed the dragon again then, take the dog out for a walk. I wish he wasn't a darn fence hopper or I'd let him run out in the pen.

There’s been February’s where I’d be out in the yard raking twigs and pinecones getting a jumpstart on spring cleanup. Not this year for sure. Northeast is no joke compared to years past.

I got home early from work Friday. I cut wood for a couple of hours.
My plan was to split and stack it today ,but the snow shut me down.
Instead I worked in the shed getting ready to put foil backed foam on the ceiling to help keep the heat in. The roof will still be vented through the soffit and gable end vents.
Maybe cooler in the summer also.

Not many trees there (left).
Don't cut them all down ;)

We thought we would have work to do and get some more fire wood. We had a wind storm come through and took down a decent size tree which fell across the road. Most likely oak. The tree was on our property as we own the land on both sides of the road it fell across. Well my neighbor who lives around the corner went and took all the wood. Grrrrrrr. I understand the tree had to be cut to clear the part blocking the road and the neighbor got to it before we did but I wish he would have said something. I didn't have a problem with him taking some of the wood but he took all of it. We drove down beforehand to see if the wood was any good or if it was rotten. Figured we would come back after going to the store and cut it up and take it if good or heave the pieces into the woods if rotten. The neighbor was walking his dog. I guess he saw that we were looking at the wood and he wanted to make sure he got it because when we got back from the store it was gone. We used a decent amount of wood so far this winter and it would have been nice to fill the rack that is now almost empty.

Darn!
My spouse looks at me like I have a mental illness when I say "I'm going back up to get the rest of that wood before someone else takes it"
I think she pictures the fog morphing into lumberjacks with logging trucks swooping in, loading up and driving the logs away on a highway on top of the clouds... The likelihood of that happening...
I see it like a couple hundred-dollar bills sitting in the middle of the trail with a halo floating above... Who in their right mind isn't going to buck and load it up...
Sorry about your wood, I do believe it is still your wood. The early bird does get the worm as well though.

I brought in more firewood from the door yard. And then hours 13-15 moving more snow around. I was a little slow getting the snow pulled off my roof and got an ice dam. A little water got inside but it's under control now.

I guess we do not operate like that. After the hurricane my other neighbor who had lots of trees down cut up a whole bunch of rounds. He left them on the side of the road on his property. We didn't want to assume he wasn't taking them so we went and talked to the him to ask if they were up for grabs. They were so we took them. Come to think of it this same neighbor has piles of rounds around his yard. Might go ask if he needs us to take any off his hands. :p I don't believe he has any kind of wood burning appliance and I do not see any stacks of split wood. I guess he could be keeping them for a fire pit but with the amount he has he will never go through all of it.

Sitting on the couch thawing my pipes...LOL.

I've got the furnace running hard with the blower on manually and pumping heat through the crawl space. I'm just monitoring the heat output to keep it all good and warm.....from the couch. ;)

I will be going outside later for some firewood processing.

Well the weather convinced me to stay couched. Breezy driven snow flurries told me not to bother. I am scheduled for work tomorrow.
I think we're supposed to have the same weather.

On another note, the dragon and I have the cold water line thawing out. It's trickling pretty good out of the kitchen faucet. In the lair, the dragon digested all to coals. Shut the blower down, raked coals, and added all premiums this time with a couple beefy split shorts of black birch. One good sized split of black ash E/W in the bottom front. A feeder.....

Did the same with the first load except almost all unleaded splits with a w pine feeder.

Going to go back down now, turn the air down to a little less than half, and the fan on manual again.
