If i ever decide to Mod my stihl 029 Super to make it more Super. i'll get a square ground chain. I just don't cut enough to justify porting and all that. But i'd love to take one of your guy's mod ed saws for a spin around the block.
Take a trip up to New England LOLIf i ever decide to Mod my stihl 029 Super to make it more Super. i'll get a square ground chain. I just don't cut enough to justify porting and all that. But i'd love to take one of your guy's mod ed saws for a spin around the block.
I wasn't suggesting you port your saw....LOL. I'm keen on ported saws. I have 2 already. Rattler did my Dolmar 7900. At one point in time, I used to port cylinder heads when I was heavy into building cars. I'm merrily asking where you got that muffler and who makes it.![]()

Full cylinder kit/porting is $$ even doing the work yourself. Ripsaw kits are $600. About the price of a new saw. I can’t justify that for what I use it for .
This is made by a small shopI wasn't suggesting you port your saw....LOL. I'm keen on ported saws. I have 2 already. Rattler did my Dolmar 7900. At one point in time, I used to port cylinder heads when I was heavy into building cars. I'm merrily asking where you got that muffler and who makes it.
Guess I could always mod my own......
Wow, that's way cheaper than drag racing....LOL.I’m fine with what I spent on it. But for a ported saw, forget it for $600, $350 if you send in your own cylinder but then it’s the down time. Way too much. I only cut about 6-8 cords per year including up in Maine. If this saw helped me make my living, I could maybe, just MAYBE, justify it
A lot less than drag racing absolutely lol. But when a full cylinder kit costs as much as a new saw, I pump the brakes LOL.Wow, that's way cheaper than drag racing....LOL.
Seriously, that's kind of how I look at it. Playing with saws is cheaper fun and, I do run saws a lot.
Someday I'll have to make that trip to see ya. I have that Dolly I already mentioned and a 99cc Husky modded into a race saw. Finger ported, velocity stack, and a BHAF. Bought both these saws cheap and already done. But i'd love to take one of your guy's mod ed saws for a spin around the block.
I’m game!!Northeast hearth.com meetup ya say? Bring log length and a saw for a entry fee 😬
I’ve been f’n with a chinesium saw, while I leave my stihl unmolested. So far I made a custom exhaust out of scraps I had laying around and leaned it out. It’s sort of abnoxious, but it definitely woke the saw up. Next on my list is a base gasket delete and a hand filed key.I’m fine with what I spent on it. But for a ported saw, forget it for $600, $350 if you send in your own cylinder but then it’s the down time. Way too much. I only cut about 6-8 cords per year including up in Maine. It probably will....LOLI could blow this thing up tomorrow
🤣🤣🤣It probably will....LOL
They're disposable saws in stock form.
Darn!We thought we would have work to do and get some more fire wood. We had a wind storm come through and took down a decent size tree which fell across the road. Most likely oak. The tree was on our property as we own the land on both sides of the road it fell across. Well my neighbor who lives around the corner went and took all the wood. Grrrrrrr. I understand the tree had to be cut to clear the part blocking the road and the neighbor got to it before we did but I wish he would have said something. I didn't have a problem with him taking some of the wood but he took all of it. We drove down beforehand to see if the wood was any good or if it was rotten. Figured we would come back after going to the store and cut it up and take it if good or heave the pieces into the woods if rotten. The neighbor was walking his dog. I guess he saw that we were looking at the wood and he wanted to make sure he got it because when we got back from the store it was gone. We used a decent amount of wood so far this winter and it would have been nice to fill the rack that is now almost empty.
And then hours 13-15 moving more snow around. I was a little slow getting the snow pulled off my roof and got an ice dam. A little water got inside but it's under control now.I guess we do not operate like that. After the hurricane my other neighbor who had lots of trees down cut up a whole bunch of rounds. He left them on the side of the road on his property. We didn't want to assume he wasn't taking them so we went and talked to the him to ask if they were up for grabs. They were so we took them. Come to think of it this same neighbor has piles of rounds around his yard. Might go ask if he needs us to take any off his hands.Darn!
My spouse looks at me like I have a mental illness when I say "I'm going back up to get the rest of that wood before someone else takes it"
I think she pictures the fog morphing into lumberjacks with logging trucks swooping in, loading up and driving the logs away on a highway on top of the clouds... The likelihood of that happening...
I see it like a couple hundred-dollar bills sitting in the middle of the trail with a halo floating above... Who in their right mind isn't going to buck and load it up...
Sorry about your wood, I do believe it is still your wood. The early bird does get the worm as well though.
I don't believe he has any kind of wood burning appliance and I do not see any stacks of split wood. I guess he could be keeping them for a fire pit but with the amount he has he will never go through all of it.We use essential cookies to make this site work, and optional cookies to enhance your experience.
