Anthills on tree trunks??

I saw these on a Black Cherry while cutting wood yesterday. Then I also saw them on a White Oak nearby. There were little shoots growing out of them, on the Oak. 20190331_182907.jpg 20190331_182840.jpg 20190331_184047_HDR.jpg 20190331_184056.jpg
They were 1-2" in diameter at the base. Anybody know what they are?

What if I just quit giving it chocolate bars? I'm afraid Clearasil residue might damage my combustor down the road.

Tree cancer? Ive seen lots of weird stuff on trees, never seen anything like that. use a wood chisel and open one up and see whats inside. Maybe there is some kind of bug that makes those.
