It's a very impressive place to see in action. I spent 4 1/2 years on the Harry S Truman CVN 75 and to see that stuff every day was pretty cool.

I spent 5 yrs on the USS George Washington (CVN-73) as a Nuke ET1 with Reactor Department from mid '90 to mid '95. The first 2 yrs was under construction, testing & commissioning so that makes me a "plank owner". Seeing her in dry dock and walking around underneath 98,000 tons of steel sitting on wooden blocks was definitely a trip. We did lots of small training missions but only one 6 month Med deployment. I used to love going topside and watching flight ops. I recently saw in the news she is due for her first refueling.

I'm not a Navy man, but I marvel at the design of ships and am awed by big carriers. A few years back I got of tour of the Abraham Lincoln (CVN72) and it was impressive to say the least. It's a floating city.

Yes, they are very impressive. 4 1/2 acres of flight deck and 18 stories tall. I found it even more impressive when I saw waves breaking over the front of the flight deck and the front 1/4 of the flight deck under water. That was one storm I was glad to be on a carrier instead of a smaller ship.

 That must have been quite a ride.
