Adding a roof

Not sure if the composite panels are as durable as steel which also comes in several colours FIL had a porch off the back of the house that used the composite panels - sprung a leak after only a couple of years. It was tough chasing down the source of the leak. Your shed roof would be significantly smaller but with it being under trees, I would think steel would hold up better to the potential of branches dropping from above.

Would a woven polypropylene geotextile allow air movement but keep out snow? Not sure of pricing as we used to buy 12' long rolls for soil mitigation for marine work (silt curtains). Was just moving some left overs around today so made me think of it.

These are kind of like roof shingles in that if you bend it over and then bend it back it will break. $21/ 8x4. I'm going with the aluminum sheets, cause I'm pretty sure a branch will hit it sooner or later.

I would not use Ondura sheets for much of anything . . . I have been less than impressed with the longevity of this stuff. Maybe they've improved it since I last used it in the early 1990s . . . maybe.

So I finally added a roof, put a center brace also. 5 2.5 sections. It ended up with a pretty deep overhang in the front which will come in handy in bad weather.

I used a similar design for my shed. I would add more supports towards the front of the metal roof. Having an unsupported section with a few hundred pounds of wet snow will fold that section like aluminum foil.

His shed is upside down and the wood doesn't fall out.
I don't think snow is going to be a problem.

Hmm, I didn't think of that. That spruce next to it and maple to the side shield the area from a lot of snow. I guess I could a support at the end of the front, that's about 8-10" out.

Well, if it gets like this year, which isn't probable, I could just use my over priced roof rake to pull it off from the back.
