I love ash also. I get all I can, and I'm fortunate to live in an area where it is plentiful. I have several that are standing dead/dying in my woods that need to come down this fall

I'm fortunate to live in an area where it is plentifu

for now they are all dying here which means it is really plentifull but wont last long. You have borers there yet?

Yes I think so, a lot have the emerald green mossy crap on them. Is that the borer disease?

no and it is not a disease it is a bug the emerald ash borer. It looks like the bark is flaking off and the tree is dead with in a year

I wouldn't say the bark is flaking off but something is killing them. Branches are dead and breaking off and I worry sometime I might have one hit me in the head while I'm mowing with my headphones in. I'll get a pic tomorrow of what I'm talking about

I got a cord of ash last winter that was fresh cut and it burned great. Helped thru the cold better than I could have ever guessed.

I like to cut ash out of flooded beaver swamps in the winter. The longer it stands the drier it gets. Bark and limbs fall of in time while it stays standing. End result beautiful dry clean wood. Cut and burn. No dry time except for the bottom few blocks from each tree which wick up moisture. If its not a problem I'd let it stand until its ready to burn.

I knew this White Ash held up pretty good on the ground, but even I am surprised by some of the stuff I've come across this year; Branches that are in full contact with the ground, mushrooms growing out of the bark but the wood is still in good shape, not punked.

Ok so here's a pic of what I have on a lot of my dying ash trees. What is it?

Makes sense, it's on the North side. It gets worse as it goes up the tree

Its sad, as I look around my property I see a lot of ash getting brown, losing limbs, just dying off. I have a huge ash dying at the edge of the yard, it "Y's" about 4' from the ground and that thing has to be 4' across at that point, and maybe 60ish feet tall. That will be a LOT of BTU's but I hate to see it die off

Yea hi hate to see them go to they are a great tree pretty fast growing decent btus and makes good lumber to
