Ten years ago, a construction company heard I was looking for decent hardwood. The owner needed to clear some huge oak trees for a construction project. he said he would cut them into rounds and deliver them to me after the wood was weighed, which needed to be done to run down the interstate.Well, he delivered it when I wasn't home, and believe me, it scared me, just shy of 75 tons. I took two weeks off, comp time in June, and somehow miraculously got it done. A year in direct sun and then in the covered lean-to, a guesstimate of about 25 cords or so. Plenty left for years; it was 100% all oak, mostly red and some white.

Christmas came early. Looks clean, I don't see any rot.
The trees were all cut within a month-long span. The police had to be called when these monster oaks were cut, as the inner-city folks loved their trees, the streets were being buckled and lifted from the huge roots. Police were stationed during the entire cutting of them. Another huge cutting is scheduled to take place in late fall. All oaks- I'm not getting any; was already asked; I'm good to go.
