Ashford 30 owners, pics of glass please?

I was hoping some of you Ashford owners out there could post some pictures of your stoves glass door. I'm curious how blackened they are after some time of burning? Seems like there's a hand full of people who have this stove now and I'm curious how dark the glass gets after a series of burns.

Is it possible to get a good flame view with this stove? I know it's got to be turned up high to achieve a good flame show right.

Here is mine. I haven't cleaned it in well over a month. On average, its the cleanest glass of any stove I've had. Considering its almost always running low.

my parents are running an ashford and after about 5 days the glass is so black you can hardly see any flame. With the constant -25 to -30 C that we've had for the last month here in ontario, the stove been heating great and using slightly less wood than the super 27 that was in there before. But come spring time its coming out just due to the glass issue and a Pacific is going back in, more than likely one of the new Neo's

Webbie, how tall is your chimney system?

My plans are calling for a 16 foot chimney (measured from the top of the stove) with 2, 45 elbows to allow for an 8 3/4" offset. Is this too short for the Ashford or the Cape Cod?

I'm nervous I'll have draft problems.

16 ft. is a lot of stack, 45s should hurt much I wouldn't think. What do the manuals say?

Blaze Kings manual says minimum of 12 feet (measured from top of stove at the flue collar) while Lopi's manual says a minimum of 15 feet (measured from the bottom of the stove up).

Yes, total with stove connector pipe and class A chimney pipe together is 16 feet with the elbows.

12 feet is the minimum standard chimney height and if you have any bends in the run you need to increase the height 30 to 60 % to make up for loss of draft.

I guess I'll see what happens. 16 to 17 feet still should work. Do 45 elbows hurt the draft that much?

If you have a tall chimney to begin with , like say over 20+ feet then the elbows affect the draft less ........But they still affect the draft.

When your dealing with a shorter chimney then it is a much bigger deal and has a larger effect.
Member Zanimal might be finding that out right now.

Why are you limited on the height that you can go ?

I am close to 13' total. I can leave the door wide open with little to no smoke escaping. The cape cod had issues on that flue. I even added an additional 5' but still smoked when the door was opened.

So with your Ashford right now you're running it with 13 feet of chimney, from the top of the stove correct?

No issues either. Do 2, 45 elbows really cause that much of an issue where Zanimal is having such problems?

Why did the cape cod have issues on your 13 to 18' flue?

The cod has a huge door and a super tiny bypass. It's bypass is smaller than a liberty. On a short flue, 45's will have a substantial impact on draft.

So this is yet another reason to go with an Ashford? Do you think the Ashford would work better on a shorter flue than the cod?

There's no way I can avoid elbows unfortunately.

23 pages of Blaze King talk on another thread and only one pic posted here in response to the original poster's request? And that one response praises the clear glass benefits of a Blaze King? I never considered a BK because of their reputation for nasty glass which was a negative to the #1 item on my list of "musts." What is going on here?

This is what my chimney system is going to look like.

Alforit and Webby3650, what do you guys think of this layout? I know it's not perfect but I don't have any other option. The chimney in these plans is already 6'2" above the roofline to meet the 10-3-2 code. Total flue length from top of stove to top of chimney is 16 feet.

What do you two think?

A 30 degree elbow is better than a 45 degree for draft.... How much ? I don't know.....But its a better choice.

Put up the 16 feet chimney............If it isn't enough then add another section of chimney.

I don't know what brand you are using but I used duravent brand and its twist lock connections.
I added a four foot section to my chimney and it took me all of 5 minutes to get up on the roof and take off the cap and twist lock the new section on .

It's a brand new stove, probably not that many owners of one here....

Personally I think that will work with the 45's. The DVL line only has 45s, no 30s. They don't offer that much resistance with the steady uphill slope of the pipe. We have an offset like this and our draft is good. Ask the folks at BK, but I think you'll be ok. Worst case scenario you will need to add a couple feet to the chimney.

This is more of reality.............And is after a low burn with not so perfect wood.....
