Auberins AT210-T

I'm wondering how many members here may be running this system?

I'm looking at ordering it and am wondering a couple of things:

1. What type of thermocouple have you used and what might you recommend for my setup? I have my summit freestanding stove with single wall pipe to the thimble where it enters lined masonry. So far I monitor stove top temps with a magnet thermometer and stovepipe with a magnet thermometer. Would the simple screw mounted thermocouple be fine just secured with a stovepipe screw or would there be a more accurate/recommended set up?

2. In the info on the unit itself it's supposed to be placed in a spot where it will never get more than 100f. I'm wondering how close others may have mounted their unit and if they have had any problems.

3. Any experience or info that anyone feels may be useful?

I'm using the excuse that my wife is very forgetful and could easily over fire the stove or worse by leaving the air wide open. But really I just want it. Lol.

I'm also looking into the heater meter that was mentioned in other recent threads but don't really want to try to run them off of one thermocouple. To keep it simple for myself I'll just use a second one. Wondering if anyone has any experience with the heater meter as well?

I have run mine attached to the surround right next to the stove for years with no issues, I am sure it sees temps in excess of 100 from time to time.

If I could ask what type of thermocouple you run? I am tempted to just go with the 'washer' type and screw it onto my single wall stovepipe and see how accurate it runs. It's considerably cheaper than the magnet one which would seem to be my other option. I guess I could go to a probe style too possibly but I'm unsure and it seems like it would be a pain for cleaning?

I got the washer type use it to monitor the exhaust temps, it is very accurate.

Well I pulled the pin. Now the joys of being Canadian kick in. Patience. Of which I have very little!

I think this will be very handy with my basement setup, Espescially on start ups so I can just glance over at the remote meter instead of running downstairs a bunch of times. Ahhh yes the luxury and laziness of it all.

I'm am in the exact same dilemma you are in. I just ordered the AT210-COMBO. I use the 4" probe sensor for double wall. Was going to do heater meter as well but the Asian girl I order with from auber told me 2 things. Why spend that much money on both units. And, auber creates the instrument but not the apps to use the heater meter. So she said if there are app issues they can't help you. She suggested I research the hell out it before I order it. If you have an email address I can forward you the email she sent me with information regarding heater meter. She sent links for me to read, which I haven't done yet.

Sounds good. Ok I think I've 'messaged' you with my e-mail but am a little unfamiliar with this forum software. I only ordered the at210 at the moment. After running it awhile I'll decide if I think there's really a need for the heater meter or not. But I'm definetly interested in learning more about it.

I don't have that model controller but I have something similar. I put this together before
Auberins started selling the AT type units. I have one controller to monitor flue temp,
I am using the Auberins 6" high temp probe, I think a probe will respond faster an give a
better than reading than a screw terminal TC. This controller also automatically closes
the air control when the flue temp reached 875.

I have another controller to monitor stove top temp, this one uses a screw terminal TC
bonded to the stove top with furnace cement. Responds faster/ more accurately, than the magnet mount I had. This controller will turn on the stove blower when the stove top reaches 675.

I took a look at the Auberins heater meter, it doesn't seem like it would be that well
suited for a wood stove. I would just get 2 AT units.

I'll be able to compare the 'washer' type thermocouple when I get it to my magnetic stovepipe thermometer and IR gun readings, I already have a good idea of my sweet spots for running this stove but the upstairs monitoring and a high temp alert will be handy. Sometimes we're busy and depending on the load/fuel/and how it's timed being able to keep an eye on it from upstairs will be invaluable. Atleast I keep telling myself that. Lol. I've burned my whole life without any sort of thermometer and leaky old stoves. Now that I've learned a little it seems I can't stop wanting to increase my efficiencies.

I run the AT210 - bought it a couple months ago. Jotul recommends stove top monitoring on my stove, so I went with the magnetic thermocouple. The remote monitoring feature and the high temp alarm is great - saved me a couple times. The magnetic thermometer seems to read lower temps than both my IR gun and my standard style stove top thermometer, especially once temps get above 400 degrees. I have seen variations as much as 100 degrees and I'm not sure which of my thermometers is most accurate. I'm still experimenting with different thermocouple locations which is easy with the magnetic one. It's a bit annoying, but it's still plenty useful to tell how the stove is performing. Overall I think the AT210 is good, but my wife wishes it was "prettier." Haha. Oh, and one other hilarious but annoying quirk - apparently it works on the same frequency as my wireless doorbell receiver as every time the temp would update my doorbell started playing "London Bridge". So while I run the stove I unplug the doorbell...

I might have to upgrade to that one. I used to keep a webcam on mine years ago. I have the Auber model that is just the single wired unit and it has been very reliable. I've had for 3 or 4 seasons now. My wife really likes having it as it gives her a little more confidence in using the stove and knowing good and bad burning temps. I'd probably keep the wireless part upstairs.

interesting that you say you had a webcam on it. I bet a home security camera that links to online might be simpler than the heater meter?

So it arrived today! It felt counterintuitive to pull out one of my stovepipe screws, but I did anyways. I've mounted the ring thermocouple about 12" up from the stove where one of my adjuster sleeves were. Both units are up and running and reading 338 which corresponds with my magnetic stovepipe thermometer. The stovetop is right at 550 where my stove seems to like to settle in.

So far pleased as punch. I just have to make some final decisions on placement before mounting and figure out how to set the alarms now. I'm assuming that the jacketed wire of the thermocouple shouldn't droop down and touch the stove itself so I'm just trying to sort out the cleanest way to run it off the pipe to the downstairs unit.

The units are smaller than I thought they might be which is good. My wife's first comment was they didn't look nearly as bad as she thought they would. Downstairs is no issue even though our basement is finished the stove for us is a heating appliance more so than an area that you'd hang out in much. It's the one upstairs which I want to keep in the living room that will be the bone of contention. I'm hoping to figure out the dimming feature before my wife sees where I mounted it. Lol.

Well it's good to know my experience is similar to others. Seems a shame though - with electronic devices calibration should be a fairly straightforward problem to solve. I wonder if people with stove pipe probes are getting more accurate readings?

I experienced the same thing with my magnetic TC ( home made one).
I would read significantly lower than the magnetic or the IR, and did not
seem to respond fast enough.

So what I did was to take a ring type TC and remove the terminal and bond
the TC to the stove with some furnace cement with some copper filings added.
Now it is very close to the IR and the mag and response is much faster.

The TC must be insulated from ambient to get accurate stove top temps.

My at100 is spot on using the washer type ktype tc and mounting it to my flex liner. I had tried using it like WES999 setup but with it being a cat stove the temps were being thrown off, found the exhaust to be the best spot.

I had also found you can attach a probe type tc to the stove top and get good results.
