Gave the MS261 a good cleaning and chain sharpening, also added a Billet exhaust to give it a little something extra.

And what's the verdict?
Sound better? Louder? More power? Or just more shiny?
My 362 also has the M-Tronic, no complaints, I had never thought that it would compensate for a different muffler, but makes sense.
I'd imagine that I'm off to the aftermarket chainsaw rabbit hole now...
Much better throttle response, definitely louder! this muffler has dyno sheets that show it increases power by 13% and torque by 19%. Haven’t cut anything yet so that will be the real test to see if it cuts faster.

The instructions that came with the muffler specifically state no adjustments needed for m tronic engines, but minor adjustments needed with traditional carb

added a Billet exhaust
Link? I'd like to get a little more out of my 261. I mostly use it for riding the ball. Was going to buy another 261 and have it work ported and timed with squish added for a bit more compression.

Then I thought better of it. I have a 2nd MS440 Mag. A collection of NOS and OEM parts with a bit of aftermarket. Collection started when I stumbled across the NOS case halves. Decided on a hybrid build and grabbed a good OEM 460 cylinder. With work porting and n 8 pin sprocket it should be quite the nasty saw.

Meanwhile, that muffler your sporting should be nice.

Full cylinder kit/porting is $$ even doing the work yourself. Ripsaw kits are $600. About the price of a new saw. I can’t justify that for what I use it for .

If i ever decide to Mod my stihl 029 Super to make it more Super. i'll get a square ground chain. I just don't cut enough to justify porting and all that. But i'd love to take one of your guy's mod ed saws for a spin around the block.

I wasn't suggesting you port your saw....LOL. I'm keen on ported saws. I have 2 already. Rattler did my Dolmar 7900. At one point in time, I used to port cylinder heads when I was heavy into building cars. I'm merrily asking where you got that muffler and who makes it.

Guess I could always mod my own......

This is made by a small shop
Out of Iowa I believe, he does his own port work I think too, I feel like Ive seen pictures of stuff he’s done.

I’m fine with what I spent on it. But for a ported saw, forget it for $600, $350 if you send in your own cylinder but then it’s the down time. Way too much. I only cut about 6-8 cords per year including up in Maine. If this saw helped me make my living, I could maybe, just MAYBE, justify it
Wow, that's way cheaper than drag racing....LOL.

Seriously, that's kind of how I look at it. Playing with saws is cheaper fun and, I do run saws a lot.

Someday I'll have to make that trip to see ya. I have that Dolly I already mentioned and a 99cc Husky modded into a race saw. Finger ported, velocity stack, and a BHAF. Bought both these saws cheap and already done.

Northeast hearth.com meetup ya say? Bring log length and a saw for a entry fee 😬

I’ve been f’n with a chinesium saw, while I leave my stihl unmolested. So far I made a custom exhaust out of scraps I had laying around and leaned it out. It’s sort of abnoxious, but it definitely woke the saw up. Next on my list is a base gasket delete and a hand filed key.

That’s a pretty cheap route to go if you want to learn how to tune saws. I could blow this thing up tomorrow and not loose any sleep over it…. And then I’d have my stock saw ready to go.

It probably will....LOL
They're disposable saws in stock form.
🤣🤣🤣

I don’t know man, one of my china saws probably has 10+ cords of firewood through it, and still runs like a top. This one has always started hard, but pulls strong when it’s in the wood, even with a 28” bar. It struggles a little with the 36”, but it’s a lot of bar for the CCs. We’ll see what it does with a few more mods. Its equivalent to my MS391, but def pulls harder.
