Is this possible (or better stated... is it a good idea)?
 
It depends on the stove and the connector configuration. Our stove's baffle is easily removed. This affords a straight shot from top to bottom. Some other stoves allow a straight shot by opening up the bypass. Some others do not and require detaching the connector.
